Re: 50 machines versus 10 machines
It would go over great for 1/2 of them, wouldn't it? The situation you described is exactly what I seem to detect in practice play. I win 5 in a row, then the dealer wins 5 in a row.
I think he must have some special plays and knows how to spot a machine in a cool or cold cycle. I would like to order the clam chowder please, here is my slot card.
See, while I do believe he is making a joke and I also know who and what he is refering to, when did I ever mention anything about hot and cold cycles or special plays?
Yes it is a joke. For his viewing on his next trolling visit. Right after he finishes dinner with Ted Turner and hittin them aces of course.

Now that hot and cold cycles have been introduced into the conversation I find it to be the perfect time to introduce my newest product "Fever Strips". Very similar to the same strips you would apply to someone to check thier temperature but adjusted to the standard operating temperature of a video poker machine. These strips can detect minor changes in the temperature of the machine and alert the player equipped with this valueable tool as to the state of the machine. In seconds you too can determine whether the machine is "hot as a firecracker" or "cold as ice". New Fever Strips, don't leave home without them.
Sidenote: players results may vary, the manufacture makes no guarentees or promises in regards to this product. Use of this product may produce side effects which may include all or some of the problems listed:
Loss of hair
Impotence
Blindness
Insanity
Agressiveness
Suicide

Are they cheaper by the dozen?
I bet ( disclaimer:not on this site) if you put them on the Web for sale, you would sell millions. If Breathe Right could make it, why not this?

Nice idea - - but add "Bankruptcy" to the list of side effects.

@Shadowman - Yes, I am "Psychophysical" on that other VP message board. BTW, thanks for the Minnesota OEJ strategy we talked about earlier.
@Pokerherguy - It sounds to me that you've had some incredibly good luck at the machines overall. I played almost 500,000 hands over a two-year period on slightly negative machines without a royal. During that time frame I probably played HUNDREDS of different machines to no avail since I like changing machines a lot, too. (This awful streak was finally broken a few months ago, but no royals since then, either....) In an earlier thread, I "gently" approached the idea that there may be a biological influence playing a role as to why some VP players are "luckier" than others since they seem to hit the DEAL button at a better time more frequently.....but, alas, I received no major insights in this area except that grouping large numbers of VP players together and adding up all their play results would closely mirror the expected percentage payback of the game itself. This would be diluted by the average playing skills of the group which would lower the *actual payback* percentage somewhat since almost no one plays perfectly and many people play terribly! I'm still open to the possibility of human biological influences playing a role in good luck in VP, since the timing of DEAL button presses is such a sensitive thing and is so paramount to short-term success.

PS. Maybe if I drink more JD single-barrel whiskey like this enigmatic "man on the motorcycle" I could press this DEAL button at a profitable time more frequently.
Biological influence. Interesting thought and if it were the case would it not play a role in almost anything the person is doing? Everyone who knows me says I have more luck than any person they have ever known but maybe there is more at work than just luck.

Shadowman,
When I refer to biological influences I don't necessarily mean just trying to be a "psychic". Maybe people who jog 5 miles a day would be shown to press the DEAL button at a better time than sedentary people? This is just an example of possiblities here. There are a host of possible biological influences to be explored....Heck, World Series of Poker winner Johnny Chan likes to peel open and sniff oranges for aromatherapy when he plays live poker....stuff like that...
Consider Elmer Sherwin, the two-time Megabucks slot jackpot winner. Since the statistical odds are overwhelmingly against even heavy slot players hitting the first Megabucks, what are the odds of that second one rolling around? Maybe Mr. Sherwin had something going on with his body at the time to press the button when he needed to. I just hope it doesn't get better with age! (Mr. Sherwin was 92 years old when he hit the second one.)
These are all speculative ramblings on my part, but here is the article about Mr. Sherwin and his fortuitous button timing:

I have a slot story for yall. I hate to play the things I find them very boring and VP is what I play. A while back I was headed to the exit after a very good night of VP not a thought in my head (thats pretty normal for me). I noticed a slot machine, not just any slot machine but that particular one. I kept walking and actually stopped and turned around to go back to that machine. I put a $20 bill in and pushed the max play button ($3 play) and there it was "triple7,triple7,triple7,X10". I had no idea what I had won but it looked like $10K. Turns out I was playing at a bank of progressive slots and I had hit the jackpot. There were several other machines just like the one I noticed, I had actually walked by some of them on my way to this particular machine. There were people stading all around me who were very excited. I really didn't feel anything other than I hope this doesn't take long because I'm ready to go home. It actually didn't even seem real. They were trying to get me to stay and were offering to put me up in a suite and even offered to send a limo back to my house to get my wife and bring her down. I only wanted to go home. It didn't even sink in until the next day what had happened because like I told my wife it was like everything was in slow motion and to this day I still say even though I had never played that slot machine before, before the reels had even stopped I saw the (triple7,triple7,triple7,X10) in my head.
