That's a more modest 47x47 shot, when you consider whatever card comes up on the first hand can be repeated twice in a row above it. If you guessed the card before it came out, that would be the mindblowing 47x47x47.

I once got an quad from holding queen king (can't remember which one it was). Anyone know how to calculate that?

My understanding is that when drawing three cards, there are 16215 possible results. Drawing to two cards, then, hitting a quad on either of them would be one in 8107.5.

That seems a lot more common than I would have thought. Interesting.onemoretry wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 8:10 pmMy understanding is that when drawing three cards, there are 16215 possible results. Drawing to two cards, then, hitting a quad on either of them would be one in 8107.5.

But the first line's card drawn doesn't matter, in regards to calculating how often that scenario happens when holding 4 cards of anything. Because any card can be repeated on the next two lines. So it's statistically much more common than you'd expect.
Let's say you're flipping a coin, and you flip 10 heads in a row. Happens on average 1 in 1,024 flips. You proceed to flip it the next 10 times, and all heads again. You think to yourself "Wow! 20 heads in a row. A 1 in 1,048,576 event. Maybe I should have went to the casino instead!" But in actuality, any 10 flips you did could have been repeated the next 10 flips after. You think you're witnessing a 1 in a million event, but it happens once every 1,024 times because all 1,024 combos are in play the first 10 flips. Do you get what I mean now? Any card drawn on your first line could have been repeated on the next 2.

Mine wasn't right, but drawing a specific card is.applepear86 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 7:01 pmThat's a more modest 47x47 shot, when you consider whatever card comes up on the first hand can be repeated twice in a row above it.
