Multi-hand Games

Post by Vol »

I see very little discussion of multi -hand games. Here is a basic question.  Assume ten hands per deal. Say I select two cards from the base and then draw.  I am drawing to the same two cards in each hand but presumably from slightly different sets of 47. Is this significantly different (statistically) from playing the same hand 10 times in a row. Or, are the nine hidden hands really not there, and I am exactly playing the same hand ten times in a row?  In either case, does this affect the  probabilities or strategy?

As I think you have surmised, you are basically drawing 2 cards each from ten different shuffled 47-card decks.  So, this is very much identical to playing the same hand 10 times in a row.  It's possible to get the same drawn cards on some of the hands, but each hand is independent of each other.  Each dealt hand has the same distribution of outcomes, depending on which cards are chosen as discards. If you wish to select to hold the dealt cards that result in the highest expected value, you would employ the same strategy in 10-play as you would in single-hand play (because the expected values of the 10 hands can simply be added up).  Whatever is the best play for the 1st hand will be the best play for the 2nd hand, and so on, up to the 10th hand. You can expect bigger swings with 1 try at 10-play than 10 tries at single-hand play.  This is because the dealt cards are so important to your result.  For example, you can be dealt a flush, straight, or full house and get 10 pat hands at 10-play with a big payoff, but you are essentially never going to be dealt 10 consecutive hands of a flush, straight, or full house at single play.

Vol,

I almost exclusively play multi-hand games. As a matter of fact, Bob Dancer, does as well. For players with larger gaming bankrolls, multi-hand games can be very lucrative. The reason many folks may not play multi-hand games is because to find the better pay tables many times you must move up in denomination. For instance, most 3 or 5 play double double bonus games are 9/5 or lower for quarters and to get 9/6 you must pay dollars, a significant difference in max bet per deal.
