Setting Win Goals

Post by Lucky Larry »

Several times the topic of goal setting has been broached and I'm really pretty bad at setting a winning goal.   Losing goals are easy -out of money-no play unless Ms. L's winning.

But when I'm winning and hitting I find it harder to set a "win goal" and stick with it. 1) "having driven 2 hours - I want to play"; 2) I'm hitting maybe I'll hit some more; 3) Ms. L's still playing...

I used to cash out big hit tickets (or triple my $) and still do occasionally. But, it seems harder for me to do that especially when playing multi-hand (MH). I usually increase the # of hands or the denomination. For example, this past weekend, playing MH 5¢ - $100 in I go up I pulled a ticket. A $100 in and another larger ticket. Two within an hour. So I am out of money with two tickets. Cashed smallest one out and start over. Put the rest away. Go through the first ticket. Cash the second. Go down to $47 and then moved to Spin Poker from MH. Played 10¢ and hit a RF on one hand. Moved to 9x1 quarters DW and hit 4 Deuces on the first hand. DW was hot and I am up over $400 and move up to 9x5. Played two hours on 9x5 even then down. You know the story. Came home even but I had been up triple what I took.

So how do you set a goal, win and reset your win goal?

I have the same problem as #2 reason, and I end up putting it all back and some more.
If I get a good hit ( $400 or more ) I`ll cash out a ticket and put in another $100 and see if the machine is still hitting. If it dies I move on or change games.
 I can`t set goals.

I played this weekend at Horseshoe Southern Indiana.  I had a great Thursday evening and won $1,000.  Went up to the room to sleep.  Next day went to a meeting and came back to play that evening gave back 600 of the $1,000.  I went back to bed.  Next morning got to play again lost the $400 plus my $1,800  that I had brought.  It was time to go home with my last $200 but I played.  Won back the $1,800 and I decided I was ready to head home.  I lost the money I won but did come back to win the money I had brought. Went home with comp room and food and no expense except the drive to the casino.

This is something I have started doing this year and sticking to it.  You have to say to yourself this won't be the last time you will ever be in a casino.

I set a goal and if I hit I'm gone.  If I hit over I try to parlay the winnings.  I think one of the biggest mistakes and I see it alot is people hit big and up the denom to loose it all back.

I watched this guy build up a .25 machine to over $1000.  After all the great hits he started playing $1 and it was gone before a blink of an eye.

As for setting a floor limit, I don't... I just play till I win lol.  It usually happens it just takes longer sometimes.

Just last night I dug myself into a hole I thought I could never get out of (thanks to a new game TDB Random Rewards, yikes what a game ate $800 and only got 2 FH ) but I managed to come back and win 4x what I started with.

Love the concept of "not being the last time you'll ever be in a casino."   Not sure Ms. L will buy into it.

Unfortunately, neither my retirement nor my investments allow me to play until I begin winning - so a "entertainment $" bottom limit exists. Only in my dreams or on Videopoker.com do I get to play an unlimited amount...

I always set a goal...My goal is to play as long as I can without falling asleep or dying of starvation..If I quit when I'm ahead I'd have to go my room, read a book, watch TV or some other totally boring endeavor...I'm there to play...I'm with Lucky and Ms L...All this hand counting and how many 4TAR etc. ruins the fun for me...I just take what I can afford to loose and if I bring any home I save it for the next trip...My comps are free food and room..a limo to and from the airport and some free play...The good life....At my age you never know when it will be your last trip to a casino....Not getting any younger, that's for sure....

I agree kjohn. We TRY to bring some home but its the same for us-what will we do instead of gamble? Thats why Im there. We do go to the room (usually a suite) and watch a movie if we are doing poorly but thats the only time! If we are winning we are playing. Sometimes I have to beg Mr Boops to go eat!
