Wife got first Royal...finally!

Post by FloridaPhil »

After playing VP for over 4 years, my wife finally got her first Royal.  She plays very slow and carefully, probably 500s hand an hour or less.  It's amazing how little it costs her to play.  She plays quarter 8/5 Jacks and 7/5 Bonus exclusively.  On a three day trip to Biloxi, I don't think she ever lost more that a few hundred dollars and most of the time she comes back even or slightly ahead.  Now she's up $1,000 and her VP stash has doubled.  I was there to see the whole thing.  She drew 4 to the Royal hearts and got the fifth card on the draw.  We play side-by-side and it seemed like she had done that a million times before and got nothing.  What a thrill to see it come up for once.  I hope it's the start of a string!

A dealt Royal is really rare.   In 10 years of play I've only had one.  We've seen other people get them.  One guy got one sitting next to us at the Beau Rivage bar and wanted to know why his machine locked up....   We could have killed him.

Iam sure the guy sitting next to me thought the same thing!  We were in Manitee Michigan at Little River.  We had just seen the Rat Pack and had 40 miles to drive to where we were staying, and it was snowing like mad, but I had 20 dollars left(of free play} and I was going to play it! Sat down and about the 5th draw bam!!!!!!!!!!! it took me a second to figure out what just happened.  I was one happy camper, they came and paided me and we were out of there! All beautiful spades  HOPE TO DO IT AGAIN SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE!

Double "Amen" on that!  It took me years to figure out what I was playing for.  As recreational players, we are playing for those times when great things happen. I've adjusted my mental atttitude and play to that goal and I'm a lot happier these days.  It's too easy to get caught up in the money of the game.  The best Video Poker is probably the cheapest for the most fun.  Bring on those $1,000 Royals...

Here's to many more for her...and the rest of us, too!My first dealt royal was at the Palms on three play and in hearts. The red glare really confused me for a few seconds when that machine locked up. I wondered what I had done wrong and what it would cost to replace a machine! I had lost $175 there earlier that day and did not want to return. However, hubby wanted to go back for a free buffet. So I put a $20 into the machine...Memories!We splurged and took a cab back to Bally's instead of walking the $3G across the street  at night and hopping the Gold Coast shuttle bus back to Bill's. To those who are considering giving up gaming, I suggest you keep playing until you hit that elusive dealt royal (s) because it is such a thrill.

Congratulations Phil to your wife and it is even more special that you were there to see it first-hand. Hope you two can share many more.
