Do real life machines auto-hold a dealt Royal?

If you go in training mode on the games here on this site, and pick a royal to happen, the game automatically holds the royal, and plays a fading blip sound. I just wonder if this happens in real life too. In the past, I always thought I'd be nervous about making CERTAIN I held all cards, and didn't bump the wrong button by accident.

Best I've seen dealt in real life (err, it looks real from the vid) is Aces with kicker, as seen below on quarter spin poker.

All of our dealt RFs and all of our dealt W-2G hits (deuces, AWAK, etc over $1200) have held automatically. Last month Sweet C even had the machine lock up on Triple Double Bonus with dealt 22224 even though it was less than $1200.

Thank goodness they did.   Early one morning (2-3 am) after 8-9 hours of exhausted straight play, I was dealt a RF on 10 hands . I remember staring at the hand and taking several seconds for me to say to myself I hold all of these... right?   The machine locked up that beautiful 10 hand dealt RF. It sure woke me up and got the adrenalin flowing.

My first DEALT royal flush was amazing.  I wasn't looking at my screen - I was looking off into the distance lighting a smoke.  I heard the jackpot music and was growling wondering who won now?  I turned to my screen and looked - IT WAS ME! ! ! !   The machine had automatically held all the cards and already had the jackpot, call attendant flashing.   Good luck to all.

I believe the idea of auto-hold is based on the highest possible hand. If you can't improve it then it should be automatically held. This may even be a law in certain jurisdictions.
 
However, I've seen a case where a RF is not auto-held when the double down feature is activated. Or, even worse, the cards are held but the keys are enabled and can be unheld. I've heard of players blindly hitting the keys to hold the cards which then causes them to be discarded.

In my experience, top jackpots hold automatically. Someone said that dealt W2Gs get held. That is not true as a general rule. A dealt quad on a $10 machine, for example, will be a hand pay but not automatically held. If you were playing TDB and were dealt AAAA2, that hand would hold automatically because it pays 4,000 coins and no hand pays more. But in DDB, where that hand pays "only" 2,000 coins, the hand would not lock up.Also, there are some dealt hands in some "kicker" games where a W2G is involved --- but you can still do better. For example, in Deuces Bonus or Deuces Double Bonus, at the $2 level, if you were dealt 2222K, the hand is worth a guaranteed $2000 --- but you toss the K and try for an A because 2222A is worth $4000. Any rule that all W2Gs lock up would be a very bad one. I was dealt a $20K royal on a $5 Multi Strike machine on Level 1x. The cards were held and the game then moved on to Level 2x. The game didn't lock up because it wasn't over yet. When I "struck out" on Level 2x, that's when the machine locked up. Bob

In the old days, not all machines locked up, even on the Royal. On Bally's 5000 machines I was sitting next to someone that was dealt a Royal (quarter progressive at $5,700) and failed to hold all the cards and hit deal draw. Rather than draw attention to what he had done, he played on very quietly. I believe he was a team-player that got paid hourly with no bonus. It is possible he intentionally tossed the RF to pad his hours.Since he was not on my team I said nothing.I have not seen machines of that type in over 15 years.~FK

My dealt RF last year on the Five Star Poker machine @ Caesars LV, a relatively new casino machine I believe, was automatically held, playing $1 Double Pay - $64k.
