Drawing the card you JUST discarded
I hate posting questions that have been probably answered before, BUT ...I think I don't know the right terminology to do a search.I live in Montana and play video poker here. Always Jacks or better--no jokers, etc. Just plain ol' poker.HERE, though, you can get the SAME CARD on a draw that you JUST discarded.Yes: you can discard the 5 of diamonds, and then draw the 5 of diamonds.Soooooooo, my question is .. Does this radically alter one's strategy? I only see strategies and odds being posted for those cases where the RNG is shuffling 47 cards. But here, it certainly seems to me, that when I discard ONE card, say, then we're looking at the RNG shuffling 48 cards. Can someone point me to an article, say, that explains WHY these machines work this way and what my strategy should be in light of that fact?Sincere thanks!

Whatever you're playing isn't what most people call Video Poker, where such would be impossible. I can't find a lot of info on Montana but it appears they have Video Lottery Terminals that aren't really lottery terminals because they're not run by the lottery.

If discards are not truly discards, you are not really playing legitimate video poker. Probably, the best strategy would be to find somewhere else to play.

Strategies would be simpler because there would be no penalty card considerations. There is something called "Bonus Video Poker" which uses Cryptologic software. The Wizard of Odds has reviewed this and provides paybacks for some games. This set of games has the property of intentionally recycling discards back into the deck before
drawing replacement cards. You are paid a bonus every time
you receive a discard back on the draw.

Interesting. Though that writeup indicates Bonus Video Poker is only in internet casinos.

I would have never guessed that would be the case in Montana. On another forum Ive read the exploits of a member calling himself mikeygrimm or something close. He looks to be an expert and he plays video poker in Montana. ?
