Is dream card a fair game?

Post by edog743 »

In todays contest a few times I was dealt 2-3 4-3 2-4 combinations and a dream card. The dream card came up a 2 or or 3. I know that  the dream card gives you the optimum card. With the RNG how does it know what the optimum card is without the draw already been determined? We know this is impossible with the RNG. So I ask again is dream card poker a truly fair game?

It is programmed to provide a dream card that will provide the highest % ROI based on a totally random (unknown) draw. For example, if you are playing DDB and are dealt one of the the worst possible hands: 2-5-8-10 with four suits represented, the dream card will be a 2. It is obviously to your advantage (assuming a random draw) to be holding two 2s over two of the other options, as a 4-of-a-kind with 2s pays more than the other options. The dream card may not end up being the "optimum" card based on the actual draw. Perhaps the draw comes 5-5-J. In that case, it would have been better to have the dream card be a 5, but based on theoretical return % the dream card was presented as a 2.I am not exactly sure how the program picks from two equal ROI options. For example, if you were dealt 2-4-7-10 with four suits, the dream card could be a 2 or a 4 (both are equal ROI %). Which one is it programmed to pick? I am not sure. It will definitely be one of those two cards, but I haven't noticed a clear pattern (e.g. it always chooses the lower or higher of the two equal ROI options). Maybe someone else knows? However, in terms of dream card being a "fair" game, remember that the dream card is not ultimately finalized by the computer program, but by the player, and it can be changed to any card the player chooses. So, if I get dealt 2-4-7-10 and the dream card is a 2, and for some reason I just feel better holding two 4s, then I have that option.

It also does the same thing with face cards. never do you see the face card you throw on the draw. So to me the draw is predetermined. Hence the game is not on the up and up.

There is no such thing as "never" in video poker. Every possible combination and outcome can and will happen - it simply comes down to the frequency (%) of it happening. If a casino in Vegas (or state that licenses similar Vegas style games) is using one of its limited Class III licenses on a Dream Card poker machine, it is programmed the exact same as any other Class III video poker machine using a RNG.If you believe the draw is predetermined on a Dream Card machine, then you should equally believe the draw is predetermined on any other type of video poker game (JOB, TDB, Joker, etc.).Class III machines use a RNG that perpetually is "shuffling" the remaining cards in the deck, so that the hand you are dealt, and then the draw, changes every nano-second and is based on the exact moment you hit the deal/draw button. This is the same for every Class III poker machine. So, if you are a conspiracy theorist with video poker, I guess that is your right, but you should be a conspiracy theorist for every type of video poker machine - not just single out Dream Card in particular. There is no doubt that the computer chips/RNG chips in today's video slot machines theoretically could be programmed to do just about anything (including having predetermined video poker draws that ultimately return to the player a fixed % rather than a theoretical %). As these machines are guaranteed profit centers for the casino over time, it makes no sense to think any legitimate state licensed casino would tamper with the true randomness that is required by law, lest they lose their license or face fines and criminal proceedings, but if any player is of that frame of thought, I guess it would only be logical not to be a video poker player and instead play live blackjack or baccarat (although in theory it is actually much easier for a casino to "cheat" players in a live card game than with a RNG video machine if they truly wanted to try to get away with something and leave behind the least possible evidence).

Here's how I believe the game works when the Dream Card bonus feature is enabled:1) 4 cards are dealt instead of 5.2) A Dream Card is then selected for the 5th card, based on the best possible EV for your final 5 card hand. You can change this card if you'd like. It is not an indication of what cards will be drawn, just the card that will give you the best average return along with the other 4 cards. If you have a 3 of a kind in the first 4 cards (say 7's), then another 7 is obviously the best card you could have to go along with it. If you were to change the card from a 7, then you could still draw one. But obviously that's not a very good move in this case.3) After the dream card is selected or changed by the player, draw cards come from the remaining 47 cards in the deck as with all other games. For example, I just played a few hands and changed the Dream Card from a "2 of hearts" to something else. I got the "2 of hearts" on the draw on two lines. So the draw could not have been pre-determined or it would not have included the 2 of hearts. And if I'd held the 2 of hearts, obviously it would not have been available for the draw.

there are all kinds of never in video poker if dealt quad aces and you discard them you will NEVER get quad aces on the draw. not that you would ever do that but that is an example of a never in video poker.

That's because you're describing an impossible outcome, not a possible outcome.

Some things said in this thread have been incorrect.          1.  on a hand of 2 5 8 T DC in bonus poker, at least some of the time the DC will not be a deuce (which is clearly the "correct" play). You can and should change it. My best guess on the reason for this is that the same algorigthm is used for both bonus poker and jacks or better. In jacks, it wouldn't matter which of the four ranks were selected.          2. If there are several equal-value cards that all qualify as "tied for the best DC," then the machine is programmed to give you the one that will create the most errors among players. For example, in jacks or better, consider Jh Qh Ks 5c DC. The dream card will "ALWAYS" turn out to be the Kh (note that ALWAYS is the opposite of NEVER. In the right context, sometimes these words are appropropriate in video poker).          3.  I believe the game is fair. For the right pay tables and stakes I would definitely play this game as readily as any other.          4.  jazzman12 is a new poster here --- at least by that name. Welcome. You are clearly knowledgeable and willing to share your knowledge. Similar in some ways to Shadowman, who hasn't posted here recently. Whether you are the same guy or not, welcome. Bob

Sorry I deleted my post, I was thinking of another game.  Didn't mean to highjack your thread. /
