Triple Double Bonus Quick Quads question
What is the correct strategy for holding a kicker when the high hand is a pair of 5's or 6's? I've looked at Dancer's strategy table for TDB QQ. Maybe I just need a new pair of glasses. Btw, this is a very nice site! Glad I joined. Thanks ahead for any help! Jonny

5s, hold a lower kicker when applicable.
6s, don't hold a lower kicker unless you have 3 lower kickers, and then hold a kicker that isn't blocked:
example: 66235, either hold 662 or 665.
but if you have something like 66259, then just hold 66.

Thanks, Vman. When is it applicable to not only hold a kicker, but which kicker, if you have more than one, to a pair of 5's?Also, as in regular TDB, Dancer's QQ table lists a 3cd flush w/a face card as play, but the training mode says to only hold the face card. Thanks!

with 55 It doesn't matter which one since its an odd-numbered rank, whichever one you choose will have 4 kickers to help form the quick quad, and if you had something like 5523A, you would hold 5523 anyway. If the kicker has its complement like 5523, you would be holding both kickers anyway. But with a pair like 44, and you have 442, you only have 3 other 2's available. So with something like, 4432, you'd rather hold 443.
Does the training mode always say to hold the face card? In general, 3 to a flush with one high card is generally a better play, but there are a few exceptions with a jack. Basically if the other 4 cards other than the jack are 7 or lower, holding the jack only becomes superior than 3 to a flush: jack-high because the jack has zero straight penalties or only one straight penalty with a 7. Generally I wouldn't worry about this exception very much though. 9/6 TDB w/QQ is not a game worthy of learning every exception, imo. It only pays 98.31% with perfect strategy. :( 9/6 DDB w/QQ is a better game. But TDB is a good game to play during contests though.

Thanks for the info. Yup. The training mode always says to hold just the face card. I believe that a TDB QQ regular flush pays 25 for 6 coin play, but the same flush in regular TDB pays 30 for 5 coin play.

That would explain everything right there. When the flush only pays 5 for 1 for then holding only a high card becomes superior vs. 3 to a flush with 1 high card always because the payout for the runner-runner flush is too weak. When the game only has the flush pay 5 for 1, then all 3 to a regular flush are never suggested holds. You should only hold 3 to a Straight/Royal flush, or its 3 to a flush that can form a Quick Quad (e.g. 257 suited). And for regular TDB when the flush pays 5 for 1, 3 to a regular flush is never a correct hold either.
Bob Dancer's cards are definitely great, but they are designed for the best paying games available, which in this case is 9/6 TDB Quick Quads. 9/7 TDB Quick Quads actually doesn't exist because the Quick Quad feature would actually hurt the game's return vs. standard 9/7 TDB!
Here is the 9/5 TDB strategy for Quick Quads:

When you have paytables that don't quite fit your strategy cards, I highly suggest this site:
