New Jersey On Line Gambling?

Post by FloridaPhil »

I read that New Jersey has legalized online gambling.  Does this mean they will have video poker?  Can someone from another State gamble at these casinos?  What's this all about?  Thanks!

You have to be in New Jersey.  You do not have to be a residence of New Jersey.

Phil, and Doris, I suggest reading the following article and explore the rest of the site, it has a good, concise summary of online gambling. http://grochowski.casinocitytimes.com/a ... ling-62821   currently, only Nevada, Delaware and New jersey have legal online gambling, and actually in Nevada it is confines to POKER.....so to answer phil's question, Video Poker is only legal in Delaware & New Jersey for online play...... Of course, there are literally thousands of online casino sites available and accessible online for anyone who wants to play them....these sites are based outside the USA (typically in places like the carribean on Islands like the Caymans or St. Croix or dozens of other locales)     it technically is illegal for a USA resident to play these games, but the chances of you getting busted are about the same as being struck by lightning, but as always CAVEAT EMPTOR ..... if you do get cheated or scammed on one of these offshore sites, you are toast, you have no recourse except maybe to get your credit card company to BAN all future deposits to that site by telling the card company it is a gambling site, thus essentially confessing your own guilt in order to prevent others from getting scammed.    I asked webman in a different thread down in the AC chit chat section if we can now discuss online gambling with SPECIFICS and DETAILED info since it is legal in these states, but he never replied.   I think he is MIA.....

I signed up with CaesarsCasino.com, last week, made a small deposit and hit 4oak aces for $400.00. U have to physically be in NJ, and some banks aren't letting you make a deposit.

I wonder how they know you are actually playing inside New Jersey?  I can see how they can refuse your business if your mailing address is out of State or only receive and send money to NJ, but technically I don't know if the State systems can tell if are playing outside the State lines.  Interesting...

Phil yesterday while reading the newspaper I saw a picture of a guy playing in New Jersey. The caption said he was playing at a rest stop on his lap top.

I doubt he was playing at a Cayman's or St. Croix based site though. Or one of the other dozens of locales.

There are a lot of ways to verify if a player is in fact within the confines of a state with legalized gambling.....obvious ones include ISP info and cellphone location utilities......I cant remember the name of the company, but there is one company that actually has some type of GEO-location program or software that allows someone to definitively determine where someone is playing from.....I'll try to find that info for everyone. But obviously, if online gambling is to be successful, then verifying that a player accessing a casinos games is in fact within the state is crucial, so clearly they have the means to do this otherwise they wouldnt have gone live with the service....  Meanwhile, read this article about how one HUGE casino magnate is dead set against online gambling, and read his concerns.....I find his arguments have some very good points. http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanvardi ... -gambling/

Cellular location utilities would not come into play if a person were sitting in a location that has free wi-fi and this location was inside the state of New Jersey.

absolutely correct but what I was referring to is the following:   (1)  One method of verifying a persons location entails, when a person logs in and/or registers to a casinos website to gamble, they provide their cell phone info and the casino can utilize that to lock down their actual location....to verify the person actually has their phone with them when attempting to play, the casino may ask them simply to send a text or a call....you can see how this would be easy, which then leads to the second possibility as far as cell phones go  (2)  If a person actually wants to use an APP to gamble online from their cell phone/smartphone, then voila......Borgata supposedly makes this real easy and encourages its customers with the right phones to pla via this route, and early reports are that borgata is leading the online gaming race in AC by a wide margin, which surprises no one.....Borgata is the best in AC at just about everything, no doubt because they are run by a Vegas company with years of success (Boyd Gaming.)
