Machine thats just paid

Post by pjmaui »

Looking for opinions, I tend to be attracted to the machine that has just paid a substantial amount. It seems the general opinion that if the machine has just paid to avoid it. I think the opposite. I see a lot of players that will catch a four of a kind, cash it out and walk. That is a machine that I will play. On two occasions I have sat at a machine that had hit a royal and I have caught a royal. It seems that Aces will often follow a royal. DDB is my game. On a bank of 5 machines, I will play the one that has just paid out 400.00 as opposed to the one that had paid out 15.00.
What's your opinion?
Thank you in advance.

your observation that many will leave a machine, after hitting a good hand is accurate. see it all the time. others believe a machine that just hit, is 'hot'.  but, if one believes in the randomness of the RNG it makes no difference.

That is true there are people who are paranoid about playing on a machine that paid out big money. One thing to add is that I've seen a few people who have a white ticket with a huge amount on it. They play a few spins on a slot and cash out to go to the next one if it does not hit right away. People come in thinking this machine just hit big so they bypass it.

Add my g/f to the "paranoid if a big hand or big cashout" was on the machine camp. And considering she moved machines the last time she saw 4 Aces left behind and then she proceeds to hit a Royal, I don't see it ending anytime soon.

Personally, I think it has more to do with the player being hot rather than the machine itself.  It seems like when you are having a good day, it's on all the machines.  Unfortunately, the same is true on bad days.

Last year I happened to be at the casino on a very busy Friday night. All of the good paytable machines were taken except the one a guy had just hit a Royal on and cashed out. Nobody would play it including my wife. I sat down to try it and five minutes later hit a Royal on it myself. Unfortunately, this was one of only 2 or 3 Royals I have hit in well over a million hands. Funny, I got no congrats on that hit. Probably because the rest of the people had been playing for hours already and hit nothing good. That is usually me in that situation, but I always wish the one who hits well and congrats no matter what the circumstances unless the person is a complete a.. h...

I think Phil is correct. Players are hot, not machines. When I am having a run it can be on multiple machines, multiple denoms, even multiple games.

Also ---- one of my most interesting video poker events was back to back royals at the old Treasure Chest in Biloxi. This was before Katrina, as the casino was destroyed. I hit the first royal and after being paid the attendant, as was policy, stood there to watch me play the first hand. I was dealt 3 to the royal and I made a joke about wouldn't it be funny if I hit it again. Well, I did, to the amazement of the attendant and people on nearby machines. Me, I was cool --- I just sat there with my mouth wide open for about 5 minutes.

The event cleared up for me any misconceptions about not playing on machines that just paid out big-time. I later mentioned this to a casino executive and she said, basically, when will players learn that a casino return cycle is an entire year, and anything can and will happen on a single day of that year.

nice hits rascal! Did the casino freak out and yank the machine or did they return to normal when you didn't hit anything significant on the next hand. Do you even remember what you hit on the next hand after the 2 royals?

And since the machine locked up were these dollars or higher hopefully?

I will take it one level up. I think it depends on the person playing. So, if I hit it then I cash out if someone else hits it then I will play it. But at my local casino there are only about 4 machines that actually payout. The rest you can play till your blue in the face, nobody ever hits on them. But the others are pretty consistent. Well make that 3 they took one out last week and now there is just an empty hole.
