Re: TOC champion

I guess I can not and will not understand how people play in these daily and monthly contest's with no expectation of winning. If you do not have any expectation of winning why play? Tell me please I really want to know. Are my expectation of winning realistic, yes I believe they are. Otherwise I wouldn't play. Billyjoe this site is not free I pay for the pleasure of playing here,as do you. Maybe I am way off on this maybe not.
I certainly try to win every time I play, but I know that the odds are long against me. Since WebMan introduced that feature on you contest score, saying how much you would have won playing that 100 game session in a casino, I would have thought it would have been a real eye opener for everyone. I have played in contests where my scores would have all won money in the casino, yet I did not hit the board. That in itself was very lucky. I know that it is very difficult to win at VP in a casino, so it shows how EXTREMELY difficult it is to place in a contest.

As for paying to play on this site - yes, I choose to pay for Gold. I like the features that are included in that membership. But I do not have to pay anything, if I choose, to play in the contests.

Yes webman I stated in several post's that I was in the TOC last year. The way I got in did not make you happy. So you changed the rule's to prevent that from ever happening again.Just for fun in the next newsletter to people we should have the poll question be DO YOU THINK THE DAILY/MONTHLY CONTEST'S are run fairly. Then let the chip's fall where they may.
I have encountered several people on chat that see it my way. This poll question could be an eye opener. Maybe not who know's.

I'm more interested in determining why you think the contests are not run fairly, and this forum is a better format to discuss that than a poll. You (and yes, likely others) have unrealistic expectations which lead you to this conclusion, not actual events. I'm trying to help you understand what your expectations should be in a situation such as this so that you don't beat yourself up about it and throw out accusations that are based on emotion rather than fact. So let me ask you some questions: If these contests are run fairly, how often do you think a player should win a daily contest? I'm not asking if you think you should at least win "once in a while," but the realistic odds. On average, how often will an individual player win?For the purposes of this question, we can use a simplified number of 5,000 people playing per day.

You stated previously that one should not expect to win or recieve a random entry. In the same breath you said do not be suprised when a person get's multiple entries. I found that to be strange then still do. Supposedly I have an equal chance to win than anyone else. You have to admit some very strange thing's occur here. You said yesterday in your testing you could not attain such remarkable hand's. Which lend's creedence to my argument I believe. So I will keep my mouth shut, since my outlook on this subject is not popular. I will probably continue to play the contest's with unreal expectation's.

I have answered all of your questions, would you mind answering the one I posed to you? If these contests are run fairly, how often do you think a player
should win a daily contest?

You stated previously that one should not expect to win or recieve a random entry. What I am saying is that if you have the expectation of winning, you are extremely likely to come away disappointed.  The only thing you should expect is a realistic chance at winning, and that chance is very low. You most likely will not win, and complaining when you do not says you feel you are for some reason more statistically important than all your other competitors.
In the same breath you said do not be suprised when a person get's multiple entries. I found that to be strange then still do. Supposedly I have an equal chance to win than anyone else.
It's very rare to find a dollar on the ground in public. Don't be surprised if someone on Facebook says that they found a dollar on the ground, two days in a row. It doesn't make them a liar. When there are a lot of people, infrequent things will happen multiple times to the same person. But you're probably not going to find a dollar today.
You have to admit some very strange thing's occur here. You said yesterday in your testing you could not attain such remarkable hand's.
I have not ever had a dealt royal. That is very different that saying I "can not" ever have a dealt royal. I could get one on my next deal. I probably won't. When i don't I won't be surprised. When a bunch of people play a total of a million deals, I would be more surprised if someone did not get one, than if someone did.
So I will keep my mouth shut, since my outlook on this subject is not popular.
I'm not asking you to keep your mouth shut, I'm really not. I'd prefer that you understand and be less grieved by your personal results, which have been pretty good. Then you can have more enjoyment, either through continuing to play with a slight chance of winning, or by doing something else that won't leave you so disappointed.

I guess my chance's of winning each day is 1 in 5k. my chance's each day would be the same. I believe a poll question is the way to go rather than the forum. For the simple reason people would be more apt to say what they truly feel if  they did not have to put their name next to their thought's.

I guess my chance's of winning each day is 1 in 5k.Correct. Now, what are the chances you will not win?4,999 times out of 5,000 you would not win. With those odds, is it more realistic to expect to lose, or to expect to win?

It is more realistic to expect to lose I guess I am not wired to accept losing and liking it.

There's nothing wrong with a competitive spirit. But having realistic expectations is still important or you could start to feel like a failure. There's nothing good about that. Keep your chin up and give it your best shot, realizing you probably aren't going to win this thing, then get on with life.
