The new format is interesting and I hope most are happy with it but with
every format change I find myself playing less and less. I rarely play
now, and I doubt I'll
be participating for much longer. I've been playing contests since
long before the daily ones started and I've never made it anywhere
close to placing in the top 10. I've been playing VP for well over a
decade, both online and in the casino, and have played many, many
millions of hands without ever being dealt a royal. It is the
combination of those 2 that makes playing in the contests seem like an
exercise in futility, at least for me, more now than ever.
It used to be that I could delude myself
into thinking I had a chance for at least most of the first day. Sure,
the scores would be sky high, but they often still left a little wiggle
room. On some days there were downright GOOD chances to get on the
board even into the evening without needing a dealt royal or a/k! But
by the evening of the first day now virtually all the games have scores
that I've never been able to get anywhere near.
Sure, I could get lucky. But after playing for years and never getting
even close the first day "bar" is set too high for me to even be
interested. One look at the scores and my only reaction is "Why
bother?" So from my perspective it's effectively gone from 22 days a
month when I found the contests compelling to 4. Of course the good
news is that this gives me a lot more free time
And for all the people that love the new format great, and I'm in no way
trying to disparage you. I think that the people that run
Videopoker.com do a phenomenal job of trying to juggle everyone's
requests and that they truly give a damn about trying to make it work as
best for everyone as they can. So even though it may not work as
well for me, I wanted to make sure they knew exactly why so they could
take that into consideration if there were ever future changes.
On the topic of the monthly ongoing contest, the
above posts about internet service are exactly why I never even started
playing them. It's a very rare month when my internet is NOT
down for at least one day. There is no way I'm going to invest that
much time knowing the odds are way against my being able to play all the
possible sessions. Perhaps everyone should get a single "get out of
jail free" card each month that allows them to replay a previous day's
lost sessions.
