Re: the hairy tarantula!!!!!
Black widow bites are somewhat more painful than a tarantula whose bite is similar to a bee sting.
I hope I never have the opportunity to do a personal comparison!

Black widow bites are somewhat more painful than a tarantula whose bite is similar to a bee sting. Shadow, in extremely rare instances, that bite can turn fatal. You left early, your pro friends will be at Suncoast next month. My daughter once found a coiled up rattlesnake in the newer parking structure at Sams Town. Wasn't too old, maybe 3-4 rattles but plenty fat and I'm sure plenty of venom.(kinda like my remarks here, fat and venomous!) Security guy was afraid to get near it so a janitor and I coaxed it into a trash can and let it go in the storm drain. True story!

Right you are. Can happen with bee stings too. Most of the time an allergic reaction is involved.
I've been stung by bees/wasps/hornets a few times. Never had any problems until the last time it happened and then I really got swollen around the sting. Had it been on my neck it could have been serious. I was more careful after that.

I was walking through the parking lot of the Fiesta Rancho last summer with my wife on the way to check in. It was late at night and carrting luggage so I was not watching where I was stepping. I was wearing flip flops at the time and all of a sudden I felt like someone had tossed a lit cig on my feet. I turned to my wife before I bothered to look down to admonish her for ashing on my feet but when she was not smoking at the time I rechecked the sitch and realized that I had walked over a small red ant mound and was just then being assulted by some very angry red ants. Ouch!! is all I have to say!!
Hey clowndoctor how come you left out the fact that you were still checking for tarantulas when we got out at stateline? I wouldn't go anywhere barefoot, they could be anywhere! Even Pennsylvania!!

Is this a great site or what. Last Spring and Summer we were dealing with a Skunk. Now it is Spiders and Ants. It is a welcome relief from holding inside straights.

Faygo, nothing quite equals getting bitten or stung! Bitten by the fact the person next to you just got quads with a kicker and then stung by a 4RF and getting zilch!

We don't have much in the way of tarantulas and scorpions in the Denver area, but I did find a Black Widow in one of my window wells once.
I killed several black widows last fall. The first was in a window well like you said. Then I started looking and found several (with nests) in the hatch for the sprinkler system outside. I nuked that area with spray and RAN!

My husband and I were somewhere in Australia, the only tourists at a crockadile farm. I noticed a multi-colored spider on my hand. "Get it off, get if off of me" I shrieked to my hero. He just stood there and stared at the spider and at me, so I got the spider off by myself. I did not feel it biting me but a red rash appeared to be spreading rapidly. Fortunately, some cream at the office quickly cleared up that rash. As I relate this to others, they exchange knowing glances, as if that explains a lot of things. "Radio active" keeps croping up in the conversation at my expense.
