Re: Standard Deflection (or Reflection) Techniques.
Backslider, you picked this fight now you have to live with the consequences. not that NEW needs any defending. how could you see this working out any other way? there is a saying " dont poke the bear" you did far more than that you get what you deserve. just hope NEW gets bored and shows mercy on you.
Thats confusing, seeing that new2vp was never mentioned, referred to, responded to, or thought about BEFORE he chose to dive in with his rudeness. He just chose to get involved when he could have taken the high road or remained silent. If someone doesnt agree with what someone else writes then comment on the message, not the poster. See if you can convince him of that. I doubt it though, he seems to not have a high tolerance or the ability to say anything without trying to be slick.

mightwin, I understand how you feel. And I respect your right to pick a side, wish a "plague on both houses," ignore the posts, try to reason with one side or both, add fuel to the fire, or simply come up with something inane (to be discussed more fully in a later segment) or sane that might bring the opposite factions together. That said a truce is not likely to happen based on past experiences and current attitudes. I can only hope if you continue to read that you find something of entertainment value that is worth your time.I saw the additional advice in your 2nd post in blue font: If the shoe fits. I think I know what this means, but I don't want to jump to conclusions, especially since you chose a different hue for the suggestion. When I asked my girl friend what she thought this phrase meant, she said, "That's easy, silly, when the shoe fits, buy it in every color!" Thanks for your wise counsel, both now and in the past. We all need a reminder now and then.

edog, though we've traded posts that disagree in the past, and perhaps adhered to our beliefs instead of changing them, I think mightwin might have liked how we resolved those issues. I appreciate your support here though I know we may disagree in the future. However, I think we could still likely settle those differences relatively amicably. Understandably, the majority of posters and readers don't want to get involved in these verbal altercations for many reasons including that it is simply not worth it.However, at some point, people have had enough of the principle of "silence gives consent" and have to say something. I am certainly not the first to identify behavior problems here and I should give credit to you as well as jm, shadowman, damule and others for pointing out what seems to be poor conduct.

Eduardo, What can I say? You and I have been in this forum since the beginning. Your special brand of wit has been instrumental in drawing out people's opinions in addition to providing advice on Mexican cuisine whenever relevant...or whenever you are hungry, whichever comes first. Thanks for help in explaining the service I was trying to provide.

backsider, I am sort of wondering why you posted on this thread. When you looked in the MIRROR did you see some or all of the 11 techniques that I laid out here? <I admit, this is another barely subliminal message about reflections here> I don't think I referred to you in the original post. Did you have the Carly Simon condition "that you probably thought this song was about you?"Well, since you are so smart (you suggested that I would be surprised about this in another post) and have read about so many past posts, you can probably surmise that this post is not only about you, but also about all those past reflections that Eduardo referred to as well as those to come. I am more than satisfied to let my previous posts in the now locked-down threads answer any of your current complaints either for your benefit or that of others, so I will only concern my self with one of your additional charges: my not having a high tolerance and my inability to say anything without trying to be slick.Really? Is that an actual concern of yours? Would you rather I tried to write incoherently enough and make enough spelling and grammatical errors so that I would have to explicitly point out that I actually have a higher IQ than my writing represents? And a high tolerance for what? Dangling participles? Or incomplete phrases? On second thought, I think I'll just let this complaint of yours slide as well.

Frank Kneeland, your post wins the Wizard of Odds Scarecrow award. Not because you are looking for a brain, though it was obvious that Scarecrow was the smartest character, but because "I <both liked and> missed <some of the points of> your post most of all." I'm guessing that few of the readers will appreciate this sentence as much as you might when I comment on FRank knEElAnd'S SOCIAl interacTIONs in this message.I suppose that some may see your post as a defense of others and an indictment of me filled with comments meant to rebuke and scathe; some will see it as satire; or perhaps, multiple levels including both of the above. If this were the first post of yours that I read, I would not know what to think. On second thought, having read many of your posts, I recall not always knowing what to think given that past experience...but they are generally entertaining, informative, inane, or all 4. There are so many responses that are suggested that I need to channel an inner Daniel Tosh, put 20 seconds on the clock, and see what comes up.Multiple Choice:A. You should have started this message with a paraphrasing of Captain Kirk's quote in "I, Mudd" that confounded the lead android, "Everything is a lie." It would have no doubt added clarity to what followed.B. If you were seriously attacking me to bolster backsider, you would be inadvertently undermining backsider by causing him to be inaccurate once again, since he stated, "If you mean my hero is Frank youre right. Hes the only person Ive seen here that can take it, explain it, then joke about it without resorting to mockery as a forum tactic." [sic multiple times] and "[Frank] is very respectful to players of all types and of all opinions on all the forums."Your post was funny, but it didn't support backsider's support.C. Frank, you don't understand. Go back and search Eduardo, reflection, 6 months or more and you may get a better understanding. I was mean then, too. Deflection/reflection is just a bit of word play.D. I loved that you were original in your construct to include 11 points. Wherever did you get that brilliant idea?E. I'm worried about not being able to find the boarders of the undiscovered country. If we cannot find them, however will we get them to pay the rent? <cheapshot spelling joke>F. Do you think heavy narcotics use or electrical shock therapy is the best way to cure this? <Either your list...or mine, I suppose.>G. Could you repeat and rephrase that, but not so directly this time? I'm not sure I got the entire meaning.H. Ok, I'm no longer totally in favor of free association; we better start charging for it.I. But aren't you happy I stayed on topic at least through the first post of this thread? PLUS we got a lot of others to contribute!J. I don't have another thought, but somewhere in the SMALL recesses of my MIND, a HOBGOBLIN is saying I need to come up with another one to be CONSISTENT with the original post.K. You are correct that some of my humor here is biting, perhaps too much so, especially if you are the "backside" of the joke, if you will, but if you knew the history here, to which Eduardo referred, even you might be suspicious and not desirous of this guy's support. Of course, I don't know that because my observation is that you stride to that proverbial atypical percussionist. You go out of your way not to be confrontational and try to make friends of enemies. You have provided information like no other author on progressive machines and you went out well beyond the call of duty in coming up with the FranknBob 8-machine progressive idea. I wonder what would have happened there if the machines had been set to be slightly worse rather than the extreme overreaction taken by management...but that's for another post.Your writing is humorous, intelligent and thought-provoking. The other guy we're talking about here...not so much. You capitulated and offered a book to him when he called your playing speed and unusual experience with random events unbelievable and you evidently converted a skeptic to a supporter, which apparently is high on your preference list. I respect that skill, one that I obviously lack, but as we both know, correlation does not imply causation. Another reason for the change in attitude that is fairly transparent to those here who have endured several generations of backsider-like posters is that he flipped to supporting you when you wanted to have a particular guest on your radio show. Forum software prevents his name from being printed without some character rearrangement, but if his name were B-O-B instead of R-O-B, his initials would be the same as most of his advice, bs... Hey, what would BackSider's initials be? No, I'm sure that's just coincidence.I understand why someone just meeting the guy might want to ask him about his views since they are different than many experts. I understand from many that in person the first time, he is an affable grandfatherly figure. Those of us who have been on this forum for a while have seen not only his views, but have been subjected too much to the vile vitriolic venom accompanying them (too many "v's"? Sorry, got carried away.). In addition, his celebration of the untimely deaths of posters that some of us viewed as "friends" was just too over the top to forgive and "start with a clean slate" as his reflections and he are wont to say.By the way, these Standard Deflection Techniques pertain not only to reflections, but to the BS-master himself. Sorry to end on such a down note, but if some of this hurt backsider's feelings, I'm happy if somewhere cddenver is smiling.OK, I know that was more than 20 seconds! I got bogged down with the last alternative response, but honest, I did come up with the first ten under the time limit!

New2vp, time for the horse?faygo, bring on the dead horse! Or maybe we should now beat on Bill Murray's ground hog...again and again...and again. And while we're posting pictures, Eduardo, do you have a recent picture of the mirror, so Frank can join in postings past?

new2vp, It looks like Im really getting to you although thats not my intention. Its like you cant say what you really want to so you make long drawn out posts, and plenty of them. What im really seeing is I now think I understand what youre doing all this for, and its because of who you are afraid i am. Ive seen that nervousness in various older threads through here and its amazing. We both have a mutual respect for Frank, am I right? So Im sorry to disappoint you, but I am not the person you think I am and Frank may be able to help on this. I am in the army, Army Intelligence support and not active duty because I live in a wheelchair. My 2011 assignment is Ft Huachuca/Marana/Phoenix Natl Guard/Flagstaff and my name is Rodney. I live in and my family is in the midwest, I get home a few days about once every 6 weeks and Frank sent me his autographed book. If he is kind enough to come on and verify that then you would probably like to eat some crow. Maybe Edwardo can get out that mirror you talked about and we could get a glimpse of your reflection, red face and all. So sorry to disappoint you, but now at least I know why youve been so rude. Have a nice day.

To New2vp:I guess I should say I only read your initial post and did not know I had stepped into any kind of serious discussion. I intended only ineffable humor and in fact had nothing useful to contribute. If you were able to take any real meaning out of my post, I clearly failed to say nothing well. Sorry, I'll try to do better (worse) in the future.Nothing in my previous post was intended to be the least bit serious in anyway.Since apparently there is some sort of serious discussion going on here that does not concern me, I'll bow out and let you all get to it. I don't know what came over me. Sorry for butting in. Can I keep the Wizard of Odds Scarecrow award? It will look very nice on my mantel next to all my booby prizes.
