Re: Car Talk
My first car that I got for my 16th birthday, was a 1963 Pontiac Tempest, that my dad got used for $600. It was a beautiful little car, baby-blue convertible with a white top and interior. 3 speed on the floor a little 4 cylinder engine. I was in heaven! He took me to the dealership after school to pick it up. I had never driven a stick and he said well, if you want to get it home you are gonna have to drive it. Boy, was I scared! About two dozen stalls and popping the clutch, not to mention grinding the gears, I managed to get it the 20 miles home. I sure loved that little car, the 63 Pontiacs were the very small and under-powered compared to the big muscle Tempests and GTO's of the mid 60's and 70's. It met it's unfortunate demise on a country road curve one night, ran it in a ditch and broke the frame and my heart. And no, I wasn't spoiled, my mother never drove and my dad worked 40 miles away, so I took her to the store and stuff when she worked up the nerve to ride with me. Got my first speeding ticket driving it 80 in a mph zone. Had to go to Juvie Court and the judge made me work and pay the fine myself, $35 and my dad took away my driving privleges for a month. Had a bunch of girls in the car going up a steep hill, missed a gear started rolling down backwards, everyone was screaming, most of them got out and walked up the hill so I could get up a head of steam. Yep, we ladies have our fond car memories also. So that's my trip down memory lane, thanks for going with me!
