One bathroom for us too Notes. I still fared a little better bathroom wise than my wife. When her dad was in between jobs due to his severe WW2 injuries, her family lived on an Uncle's farm in rural Ct. The house was built in 1699 and was still all original. The bathroom was an outhouse which was a trek of at least a hundred feet. She still remembers treking out there in the snow and in the summer, it was full of hornets. That outhouse was still in use by her uncle when we were first married. I used to hunt on that farm in my 20's and used it a few times myself. Some great stories about that farm for another time and place. It even had a sawmill run by a Ford Model A engine.

Edited to add....No regrets either on my upbringing. I still owe my folks. They took care of me the first 20 years or so and I am still paying my dad back now.

you say it is human nature to blame others for one's mistakes, pretty sad if you believe that is ok. I would argue that once it became acceptable to do so, was the beginning of our problems.   In a nutshell, this is the source/cause of any real or perceived "conflict" between what each of us posts, your erroneous conclusions:     I did indeed state that it is Human nature to blame (or seek to blame) Other people or other factors/forces  for their problems and mistakes.....this is a self evident truth that is manifested everyday on every level.    Admitting when you are wrong is something everyone is resistant to in some way, although obviously SOME people are not as bad as others in this regard....However, I challenge you emphatically to show or demonstrate WHERE I SAID THIS IS  "OK"  or that this is the way things SHOULD BE!!!!   seriously.....  I am in total agreement with the values and principles YOU stated and highlighted in your report on your "life" (your mini Bio on your upbringing and what is was like etc.)   I recognize those values and the details of life as very similar to my own and my Father's family  (Same with OLDS442 and his life story.....very interesting and enjoyable to read.)I myself however feel that society's (and the WORLD's) problems truly have become unmanageable and severe due primarily to a lack of basic common decency and goodness which is the direct result of removing God/religion from life.   This is MY personal belief, but I think it is self evident and I think many people would agree with me (unless they are scared of being browbeaten for stating they believe in a intelligent creator behind life and the planet.)   Also. it is self evident to me that Humans have a inherent spiritual "NEED" which indicates (indeed it PROVES) to me that there MUST be some intelligent force behind all of this....the fact that SO MANY people from SO MANY different cultures and regions and lifestyles ALL have some version of religion, of seeking and worshipping GOD, is a manifestation of this spiritual "NEED" I am talking about.   When humans attempt to either DENY this need exists, or attempt to fill it with JUNK or garbage or the WRONG activities (like persecuting, or KILLING people of differing faiths), this is when things become awful. You want to know WHY I am NOT a liberal or Democrat (or Republican, obviously)???   Good, decent God acknowledging & Believing people have been systematically mocked, derided and ostracized by the Democratic/Liberal machine the last 50 years;  It is so bad that any Democrat who openly expresses any type or level of "zeal' (even a "little") for good,  strong values that are based on CHRISTIAN principles & spirit is dismissed......And the Republican's so called "CHRISTIAN WING" of the party have co-opted "GOD" to justify a wide array of behavior and beliefs that are NOT "Christian" or even just plain "kind or decent".....that's all I will say about them.Anyway, kudos to both of you (notes1 & olds442) for honoring your folks and all that they did for you....

getting back on topic, the Taj Strike is in its third (and now fourth) day and no end in site.   The picket lines continue and now ANYONE entering the casino from the boardwalk is being harrassed and taunted by the picketers!!!     UNREAL!Also, the TAJ is no longer accepting reservations for the foreseeable future.....I am wondering about EXISTING reservations made prior to the strike, since SOME people are able to checkin and stay the past few days on reservations made prior to the strike. My July 20 - 28 trip is in danger of being scuttled altogether unless this resolves quickly!ANYWAY....READ ABOUT THE MICE in the Casino HERE! >>>  http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/day- ... d-40308754

On a micro level, if I return to Taj to unwind while visiting Resorts restaurants, I may don my shades to avoid eye contact. Or simply enter through Resorts in the first place, as that is the first stop. Easy enough to avert unpleasantries!

I'm not a union member, but given a choice I try not to cross a picket line. I've never walked one, but certainly see no reason to be polite to anyone crossing such a line.
With only one out of seven or eight casinos on strike, I wouldn't be anywhere near the place.

I noted the picketers from afar while exiting Resorts on Sun. Nobody gave a damn about them amid the fun and sun. I guess that those with strong views will simply spill over into Resorts. Great news for them, I would assume!

Speaking of mice, several months ago at Caesars AC, I was playing the .25 Double Joker progressives when a furry thing ran across the floor and under my machine. Since I was up $150 at that point, cashed out and haven't been back since.

"I myself am totally disgusted with Local 54 top management......the STRIKE itself was their idea, and they could not have picked a more damaging time to implement it (damaging for EVERYONE especially themselves)....it is like Nuclear weapons, when you use them, YOU LOSE, period. There is no winner."

Ive been going to the Taj for 20 years and have many friends among the staff-however I agree this was the worst weekend of the year to do this. You want more from Taj you can't cut off the source of the money.

I had plans for that weekend for months and had been really looking forward to it. I get maybe 3 long weekends a year (we both work)and to have it ruined like that was very disturbing. Either strike the week before so your friends and loyal Taj people have a chance to change their plans or be smart and wait til after the weekend. Then you can say-see how much you made? Now share with the workers.

Also they forget that without Icahn they would have no jobs at all.

sorry to hear about your lost weekend.

I understand and support the right of organized labor to strike, as long as it is legal. what I do not understand are the unions that strike against companies that are struggling financially. what good does it do in the long run.

unions in the auto industry kept striking and demanding more and more for decades. end result...Detroit. the auto companies simply moved production elsewhere, those jobs are lost forever. the government finally had to bail out GM and we the taxpayer, never got our money back.

for a number of reasons, AC is in trouble. it will likely never be the dominant gaming destination on the east coast it once was. the workers need to accept this. if they can not accept that reality, find a different job.
