It is a republic. If one wants to call it a Democtratic Republic, or a Constitutional Republic, or even a Federal Republic, they can all be both correct and wrong. I chose to call it a Democtratic Republic because while not a pure democracy, people still vote and in effect decide what happens.
It's a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Anyone who says that's not Democratic is trying to sell a few books.
Besides, just reading the word Democratic seems to set a subgroup of the forum off so there is that.

Simply calling something incorrectly gives no validity to your answer br.

To review: the original question was "is our American system of Government a democracy?"
Valid answers were supposed to be "yes or no".
Despite that request br chose to digress and offer his clearly stated answer that our system was a"democratic Republic. which was and still is wrong despite his attempted obfuscation in this post.

And in the immortal words of Alex Trebek: "The Answer Is"
Our system of government is plainly spelled out in the documents of our founding fathers as:

"A Representative Republic".

A "democracy" was deemed to be "mob rule". Our elected Representatives in Congress make Laws,democracy does not enter into the process, by design.
The term Representative is absolutely crucial to understanding the intent and strength of our country.
Since Wilson the democrat party has made many attempts to side track the train and bring power to the politicians in Washington.

And the casino is calling me tonite Tech. I just found out..... tripple status/tier points tonite and tomorrow. Will have to time the drive home or my 1 hour trip will take 3. I must admit Tech that I forgot the term Representative and just renembered Republic. I just made a post in response to a post bt Onemoretry. At least we have forgotten more than some will ever learn and retain more than so many will ever learn. I was especially referring to the huge part of the population who know all about Holltwood, but not who the vp is.
