Re: SOOPER DOOPER.....Bowl time!
I hear you OTABILL....ok, from this moment forward, I will totally IGNORE tedlark no matter what he posts.....I only ask you, as the proverbial "referee" regarding whether these pledges are kept, that you pay close attention from this moment forward as to what gets posted by whom and why......just humor me on this, you shall see EXACTLY what is going on here, and who has the "issues" with whom.......seriously, just watch. But I agree with you 100% that this crap gets old real fast and it totally detracts (does not add) anything to the enjoyment or integrity of this forum. Hence my pleadings on numerous instances before that "ignoring" is the best policy on all fronts and by all people concerned if and when respectful dialogue and debate cannot be maintained.

Here's an idea. Make either one pony up $5 each time they break their pledge. Money will go into a fund for a videopoker.com meet and greet. If we plan this meet and greet for September we should have plenty of money in the fund by then. We really need to have one and this would be an inexpensive way for the rest of us to have one. By then there ought to be enough money in the account to pay for all of our airfares to get there where ever it may be.
I think New England is an awesome team. If they had of won those three super bowls that they lost, and I do not know why that they did, we would be talking about them as perhaps one of the greatest sports teams of all time.another good point......to fine tune what you just posted chatty, New England's record in Super Bowls all time is 3-4....the first two appearances in 1985 and in 1997 actually are NOT part of the current, 15 year Dynasty that I am talking about, so that means for the purposes of my point, the last 5 super bowls the PAtriots played are relevant:2001  they won 20-17 (they beat the HEAVILY favored St Louis Rams, who were then known as "the greatest show on turf" due to their high scoring offense;  again, the Patriots, with the superior DEFENSE won the game despite being heavy underdogs!)2003 they won 32-29, beating Carolina on a last second field goal; this was an incredibly even Super Bowl, even though pregame New England was Favored by as much as 7 points......VEGAS lost a large sum of money as many people selected the Carolina Panthers and took the whopping 7 points!!!!2004  They won 24-21, beating Philadelphia......this game actually was not as close as the score, as the Patriots totally outplayed Philadelphia most of the game......still, the pregame line had the Patriots again favored by 7 points, and again, Vegas did not make a lot of money since enough people took Philly plus the 7 to tip the balance in favor of the bettors.  2007  The patriots LOST to the Giants 17-14.......again the BETTER defense (NY Giants) prevailed against one of the best offenses of all time (Patriots, with Tom Brady throwing to Randy Moss all year, were UNDEFEATED going 16-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in playoffs up to the Super bowl......and with 1 minute and 35 seconds left in the super bowl, the patriots took a 14-10 lead and ALMOST won despite the stifling NY GIANTS defense....it took a MIRACLE catch by Giant's receiver David Tyree to get the Giants the winning touchdown......still ranks as one of the greatest super bowls ever played.)2011  Patriots LOST 21-17 to the giants again, and once again, the Giant's defense helped ensure the win, but it still took a last second touchdown drive for the giants to prevail! So there you have it....even the two super bowls the patriots lost, it was EXTREMELY close and could have gone the other way! But as I said previously, the best defense usually prevails.......the old cliche, uttered by MANY famous coaches and analysts over the years, "DEFENSE wins Championships" holds water even in this day and age of NFL rules clearly favoring the offense with the current pass interference regulations and applying these same rules during the game.
You do realize, DaBurglar, with regard to the 'point spread' that you mentioned above, that it is NOT a measure of how much better one team is versus the other, but rather it is the 'inducement to bet' that the casino puts out to get someone to wager money on the perceived weaker team. The casino ALWAYS wins, except where large bets are placed on one side of the wager and can't be offset on the other. The casino does not care who wins the game, as long as the betting is equal on both sides, which is what they seek. Just because a team does not 'cover the spread' does NOT mean that the sports book loses money, if the betting is equal. The casino then just takes their 'vig' (commission) happily to the bank.

Yes of course, the "spread" is the way the casino ensures it makes money while controlling whatever RISK it might be exposed to if betting falls too far in one direction......BUT, as to HOW the casino bookmakers and analysts come up with the INTIIAL spread and as to the boundaries it sets for the point spread EVEN after taking into consideration all the action, they base it upon an actual realistic analysis of the strengths and weakness of each team, and obviously in most years one team is going to be perceived as being "better" than the other prior to the actual game event. This is why I mentioned how this year's OPENING line (Patriots +2-1/2 or 3) was actually a MISTAKE by Vegas casinos.....the bookmakers now admit the opening line SHOULD have been PICKEM (or even) given how close the two teams are on paper anyway (although most knowledgeable football fans and analysts do have Seattle as the slightly stronger team due to their defense, but it is NOT decisive enough to make Seattle a huge favorite.)In other words, as the line shifts right up to gametime, the spread becomes largely a function of which way the betting action is moving (as you correctly pointed out.) But as to where the spread starts out, that is determined by real bonafide football analysts determining who should win the game based on each team's players and strengths.

If anyone is interested, the casinos located on the stateline (Nevada-California) in Primm Nevada have some really great Super Bowl package deals.......typically they do not advertise them but if you show up and place a bet or BETS in the sports books totalling at least $200 they will give you a standard room (if available) for Sunday night comped, and a decent food credit as well.My own favorite was Buffalo Bills, but I also like Whiskey Pete's because, for years they had the best kept secret in Steak houses in Nevada, the old Silver Spur steakhouse! One of my faVORITE SUPER BOWL memories is in 2002 watching my Patriots begin their unmatched run of success by beating the Rams 20-17 ...... I won nearly 350 bucks on my bets, taking the Pats with all those points! I watched the game in the Prima Donna Lounge and then had the best dinner of my life (almost) in the steakhouse. Anyone planning on driving past Primm this weekend??

No I'm not planning ondriving past Primm this weekend but I can say that only twice in my life I've taken part in Superbowl pools. The first time I hit for $3,300.00 and the second time scored me $6,000.00. Sweet...

Speaking in General and to no one in particular, and in a HYPOTHETICAL vein, I would conclude the following (just spitballing here):IF a person were to claim that they won 80% of the time (4 out of every 5 times) playing a game such as Video Poker (even on the BEST paytables available in today's typical Video Poker offerings), and THEN claim that they are 2 for 2 (100%) winning on something as esoteric and completely random as a typical "SUPER BOWL POOL" to the tune of 6 grand (which, incidentally to ANYONE reading this post, a typical office or 'home' Super Bowl Pool is something that has ZERO relevance or similarity to placing a bet in a Nevada casino's sports book)....I am sure any reasonable person would either say (1) this person is the LUCKIEST turkey in the gambling universe or (2) this person is 100% a lying, delusional, deceptive, self-centered egomaniac.Addressing the forum at large, who agrees or disagrees with this TOTALLY hypothetical, yet strangely (even eerily) relevant scenario??
