Good Evening BacksiderI am guilty of rambling, so this posting may be off topic.  Since it is addressed to you, perhaps the other readers will not be too upset with my writing style. What I think I was trying to say is that due to reading such magazines as “Strictly Slots” I was lead to believe that VP was beatable.  And when it was not beatable, well, it was surely the best non table game to play.I still remember the article of a VP expert in which he was telling the reader how a player might be able to make a living playing VP.  For the sake of the argument, I will agree with him that there are some people that can make a living playing VP.  However, I will add that I think all of these players are playing in Nevada, and living in a state with no income tax.  All that I expected from the game was a good chance to break even.  By doing this I could call it entertainment.Because of the unrealistic expectations that I created in my mind, I put too much money into playing VP.  I never would have invested this level of  money in slot machines or even table games.  But I had been influenced by experts to believe that at worst, I would suffer the tax consequences of winning, since I was playing games that were 99 % returns.  And playing them with 99 % plus accuracy. What I think that is missing from most discussions of VP, by the experts is what is the likely outcome from playing VP with less than 100 % payback, and less than 100 % accuracy.  Added to that, would be the size of bankroll that is necessary to outlast the dry spells or volatility that almost always occurs in VP.Anyway, I read the postings of everyone here.  I do not know the politics of this web site.  My goal is to learn more about the game of VP.  I do not care who I get that insight from.  I keep thinking that I am missing some fine point, that will turn my sessions from flops to good entertainment values.  So, I keep my eyes open.Finding the truth of VP is about as hard as finding the truth about God.  Both truths are everywhere, and at the same time nowhere to be found.  My eyes are wide open, yet I am blinded from the truth by some set of assumption or myths that I have acquired, that in fact separate me from the truth.  Finally, I realize that like in the book “Catch 22" I must be crazy to want what I want.

Here we go again I believe Mr. kneeland asked you all to stay on topic He also asked for examples of why you changed your outlook on some preconcieved notion. Someone who will remain nameless drove this topic in the ditch. like I said in a previous post "at least you are consistent".

Look at it this way shadowman, Im not the one who has trouble telling forums that I lose without always having to pull a winning rabbit out of my hat at the same time. I stink and I know it and im not self concious about it.

Who are you referring to? I've stated many times that I've had bad losing streaks. Anyone who plays VP extensively will have had a losing streak now and then. Just to repeat something I've mentioned before ... when I first started playing advantage VP (1998) I went 200K hands without a RF and I lost money. I also had a bad losing streak in 2003 and again the last 4 months of 2009. I've had many other short term losing streaks as well.

As for the winning streaks, those are real too. Sorry if you can't accept reality. But, I think this is exactly what Frank is talking about. You (and others) form beliefs based on some kind of experience. If that experience has emotional attributes it can often change one's views.

It appears you are unable to accept that others have had different experiences than you. That says a lot about you.

jim18, I think you and many others have been fooled by games that are "full pay" and/or over 99%. I don't think the experts focus nearly enough on the aspect of positive vs negative, nor do they focus enough on player skill and the impact of the "edge".

This is one reason I've always kept records of my play. I want to know where I am relative to the expectation of the games I play.

Shame on us all, here were are again. And now I'm left to decide who to take advice from, someone who admits to smelling bad in public or someone capable of successfully raising  a hopping mammal inside of their headwear.

Frank, I've come to my conclusions from what I've read from casinos, players and the NGC. Personal experience has lead me to see that I'm pretty well balanced bankroll-wise with my vp play. As stated, I don't document anything so I can't bring you up an example and a date but I do see results and they're pretty fair in my opinion. I play mostly low denoms so I don't get those mammoth paydays but I can sustain play for several hours on a small bankroll. Try that on slots.

jim18, Good Evening to you sir: I understand where youre coming from and Ive been reading these forums long enough to have a pretty good idea of whos honest and who full of it, themselves, and s***. When i started playing I played to my own tune because I felt right away that those who were selling all that stuff and said they win couldnt be winning if they were selling all that stuff. In short I didnt fall into their trap but I know a lot of people who did. Now im not ashamed to say I ended up in my own trap, but at least I did it my way and didnt give my money to the others to lose for me. I have no problem saying I lose but some people cant live with themselves if they cant think theyve convinced everyone else that they win and that their way of playing is the only way to play in order to win. It must be they believe the government has allowed their inner thoughts to be read then given to anyone who reads their posts or something, I dont know. Truth is who cares and why do some get so worked up over what others say about it, and the same cast of characters do it on other forums. The guy whos on my case here gets so hot under the collar on lva if someone has even a slight difference of opinion with him. I pray for him at times, for how can someone ever live a happy life being so constantly perturbed by others.

Show me one single post on this forum of someone making such an argument.
