Re: Why did you win?
Here's another question for everyone. I know I do this. If I'm walking by and someone is hopping up and down and screaming about their win - I have to look to see what they won. Quite often, it's under $5 and the winner is acting like it's a million dollars. I smile to myself and keep walking. The question is - if you see someone winning - do you look to see what they've won?

Only if either a $5 VP machine or high limit slot goes off. I've learned that the louder the screaming the smaller the win.

If a player does not get thrilled by a quad or higher on the machine theyre playing then the person is either fibbing or bored to death and shouldnt be playing any more. Frank, Im going to come right out and say it. Im not the sharpest tool in the shed (sound bite for damule) but im in intelligence, which puts me ahead of the class in at least a few areas. Theres no way you can play a machine and read a book at the same time unless youre a screwball who doesnt care about results, and i dont see that even being close to the case. Im not able to roam around town due to my handicap and well just have to disagree on it. But Id love to see what the clickity-clique thinks about it. Concerning that none of them have chimed in yet.

Sorry for the snappy reply. Please take this as a formal apology. I just felt like you were raining on a parade, taking candy away, wind out of sails. Stupid me started this with no opinion is wrong - please forgive me.Then I guess I should be the one apologizing. No I'm envious of people that can enjoy things I can't. As I'm getting older, less and less amuses me, and very little excites me. I consider it a problem. I was certainly not bragging. Sorry if it came off that way.~FK

Concerning that none of them have chimed in yet.On your first statement. I don't even see when I've hit a quad or higher because I don't look at the draw. I only look at the deal, hold my cards and then look to my other machine. There isn't time to sweat the draw when you play at speed on two machines. It requires total focus only on what you need to hold and holding it.As far as the reading a book thing, I'm sorry I brought it up, but as it is easily provable I'd be happy to show you. It's really no harder than singing while paying the piano, or sight reading sheet music while playing violin. In fact, playing the violin is far harder than anything I do on a video poker machine. If anyone is going to be at the Palms tomorrow, drop me an email and I'll hook up with you there, and give a quick demo. I'll be there for the Masquerade Ball. It's nothing impressive, I assure you. As I said before, I consider it to be a "stupid human trick". And not a useful one either.~FK

I wanted to dust this topic off. I read in other topics about the math and playing strategically, as well as backrolls needed. I do understand that playing smartly can increase your chances of winning. Picking the best paytables also matters. The word random and RNG is repeatedly used to show fairness of how the machines work. Short and long term opinions are different. I love reading winning stories. Pictures of great wins are the stuff to drool over. Nobody wants to post about the bad days, which usually outnumber the good. Everyone has had days when nothing seems to pay, unless it's an ATM. If you read through the posts - all the advice combined together - makes your head spin. Ultimately it's you playing the right machine at the right time with luck on your side to get that royal flush. You can be playing on the perfect paytable, with the required bankroll and perfect play, and still not hit anything to write home about. The luckiest hand you can get is a dealt royal on the first or second deal. In that event, all the math, paytable, bankroll knowledge doesn't factor in - the only thing I can say is that it was an incredible amount of luck at that moment. I've had great wins holding the "wrong" cards at bad paytable machines. I believe that luck factors in to winning and gambling. How did you pick your lucky machine today? Was it the machine, or a feeling, or a lucky charm you had in your pocket? Was it your "I'm going to win" attitude or your freshly painted red nails? Did a voice inside your head tell you to go to the casino, or was it because it was a certain time of day? A friend tells me everything is based on a 50/50 chance. You either win or not. You either have a great day or not. You make the right decision or not. That's the way she sees everything in life. Why do you think you won?

I know I won because I am a good person at heart and deserve the very best. I won because I love the game, have practiced on trainer and have read several gaming books and forum tips. I won because analyzing videopoker hands is my forte. I won because I play a lot of challenges on this site. I won because I am very lucky. I won because I cannot afford to keep playing my favorite casino games without winning once in awhile! (I lost because...oops, not enough space left for all the reasons that occur to me at this instant.)

Marie - I think you do deserve the best - and that you're a great person. You should win every time you touch a machine for all those reasons. I practice here, read books, play training software, and go to classes. I also think if I walk in with a good/winning/positive attitude - it makes a difference. If I'm grumpy, the machines act accordingly.
