A President has little to do with how a local city is run. NYC fared very well under the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations, a total of 20 years if I am not mistaken with both Democrat and Republican Presidents. A city can get turned around with proper leadership. The problem in NYC now is that the middle class is gone and all that is left is the wealthy, (mostly in Manhattan) and the outer boroughs, which have pockets of middle class enclaves, but are mostly downtrodden. Now that the people with means have left, I'm afraid it is over for NYC. This was happening before Covid, but has been accelerated. There is a great piece on the New Geography website by Joel Kotkin on the upcoming demise of the great American city. NYC will lead the way.Eduardo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:09 pmBut Democrats will still be in charge of those cities, whether we vote for Biden or Trump.
Is the argument that Biden won't stop the violence in Democrat cities? Because Trump hasn't stopped it either. Not that he hasn't tried. But he has been ineffective in doing so.
Seems like the message is simply fear-based. Be afraid of Joe. His minions will kick you in the head.
Which of course is absurd.
I think it could easily be argued that there will be fewer violent protests because: 1) Democrats are more likely to stage protests that turn violent 2) They are less likely to protest if Trump is not in office.
it doesn't get any lower than this...

Another very depressing but true piece in the New York Post by James Altucher today. I actually wonder if the Baseball teams can survive in the Bronx and Queens. Time will tell.

Doom and Gloom. Doom and Gloom.
How can anyone drive through Brooklyn, Long Island City or the Bronx and claim the city is dying?

BR simple question, is NYC better now with BigBird in charge or when Rudy and Mike were running things?

Is NYC better off with the pandemic than without it? If you are going to judge NYC under DiBlasio by the last few months of unprecedented lockdowns, should we judge Rudy Gs time by September 11th?jetermacaw wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 8:55 amBR simple question, is NYC better now with BigBird in charge or when Rudy and Mike were running things?
I'd say until this summer, NYC was thriving and had been thriving since 2008/2009.
Brooklyn and Queens are light years better than they were under Rudy G. As were Manhattan and the Bronx.

DiBliaso was re-elected in 2017 winning at least 60% of the vote in four out of the five boros. The last mayor that did that was Ed Koch in the 1980s, so it would appear that NY residents don't share your views.
The last poll I can find in from May and NYC residents give their Mayor a 61% approval rating.

In 2009, Bloomberg won re-election with less than 51% of the vote. DiBlasio won re-election with over 60%.
So it seems that while you gentlemen have very strong opinions about him, the vast majority of NYC residents don't share them.

BR, respectfully you didn’t answer the question. Let me rephrase if slightly, safer now than then.

Define safer? Are people flying planes into buildings? Did DiBlasio cause the pandemic and the subsequent shutdown? Would St Rudy or Bloomberg have done things differently? Is the mayor to blame because tourism and the billions of dollars it brings in is virtually gone?
The country is going through a crisis right now. How much of that is DiBlasios fault? If you want to speculate, speculate on what NYC would be like if Trump did as he promised and the virus didn't cause economic and social unrest.
