Wichita Storms

Post by MikeA »

You guys who have access to radar (try weatherunderground.com or theweatherchannel.com) pull it up and take a look at zip code 67002.  Look at the line of severe thunderstorms that has built up south and a little west of Wichita!  Those turkeys are headed STRAIGHT FOR WICHITA!  There were 6 or 7 of them building up and headed our way.

Take a look and then if it's in your nature, PRAY!  We may need it!

Two local colleges have canceled classes tonight and there hasn't been anything other than wind around here today.  I've never heard of them doing that before.

Glad I have a basement!  I think I'll toss my computers out into the garage to make room for my golf clubs in the basement <LOL>

Well good luck.  The clouds seem to be turning almost due north and not moving easterly much at all.  May stay west of you.

Looked at MSN weather. Storm does appear to be lifting to the North. Your direction? Or are you to the South of Whichita? By all means protect the Golf Clubs.

I am east of downtown Wichita by about 12 miles.  We are going to get hit, but they are saying that there is not much danger of tornados.  But they change their minds about every 15 minutes <LOL>.  I've got to get shut down so I can go out and watch them come it!  That's a lot more fun that watching wheat grow!

'Hope everyone is "high" and dry in Wichita! Supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow when the RED WINGS victory parade in Detroit down Woodward to Hart Plaza on the waterfront.  Apparently it was a false alarm in GREEKTOWN casino today when alarm sounded and it was announced several times for gamblers leave slowly by the stairs. We really should have left, on several levels! I think employees have all been instructed to say the same thing when asked about their financial difficulties - "we're reorganizing", "just reorganization". It appears construction will continue on their 400 room hotel in process. Judge seems to to be ruling favorably. That place was packed as always!

From what I can see on the weather maps, the storm is right on top of MikeA. Waiting to hear from him.

That string of storm cells caught us dead center but really, all we got was 65mph winds and about a inch and a half of rain.  Just a tiny bit of hail.  But we had no tornadic activity!  I had the power off all night to my computers.  I lost a computer last week to a lightening surge and didn't want to take any chances.

So we dodged the bullet again!  This has been the worst year I can remember for storms.  But they have seemed to hit all around us and all we've experienced is high straight line winds and a LOT of rain.

All is well.

Happy to read your post Mike! Glad you and Mrs. A got the hail out of Dodge city(not literally!) This has been a record year for strong/severe thunderstorm activity including vicious supercell/tornado activity. Even without a spin up, I'd be rattled seeing some of them wall clouds for sure!. Thank goodness you have a cellar.
