"YOU'VE been 86ed, YOU have to leave."
I was about to give the uniformed security guard at the entrance to MGM a chirpy "Hello, how are you today?" "You've been 86ed" she said. "Excuse me" I replied, this made no sense to me. "You cannot play here, you've been 86ed". She had received a message on her phone. To make a long story short, "It was a case of mistaken identity and I'm sorry" said the supervisor. He had finally showed up and quit talking on his phone, when I had demanded to talk to a supervisor. He asked to see my driver's license and players card and made a phone call. "I'm special, no one looks like me!" "Everyone has a double" he replied, his double lived in New York. At first, I had said "this is a joke, right, or a nightmare, is it April?". No, she replied again, you have to leave. Among my arguments, I mentioned I had done nothing wrong. I had just driven an hour in rush hour traffic in adverse weather conditions to get there. I had been invited to play there and received a bonus in the mail. I wanted to pick up my bonus and comps. She said it was my photo that had been ID ed when I walked through the door. At first I was expecting an elaborately wrapped gift for being a special number to visit their casino, or someone was doing a term paper on early morning gambling addicts or there was an updated Candid Camera being filmed. I saw no gift, no camera nor anyone else in sight taking notes. This year I have yet to receive a W2G or hit a royal at MGM. I was neither a big spender or big winner! When the security guard and supervisor apologized, I realized I was not about to be hand cuffed or arrested. I discovered more courage and said apologizing was not enough. It was humiliating and embarrassing to be detained with people walking by. By this time, I was expecting at least a voucher for the buffet. Dream on.I played for awhile, made two careless plays, collected bonus and comps and left soon after. Previously, I enjoyed playing there when I won and had no complaints about the casino, parking, food or personnel. Has anyone else had a similar experience or heard of one they wish to share? What would you have done? Anyone familiar with infrastructure in casinos regarding 86 regulations? Thanks for your input!

I can understand your feelings. What I would have requested is assurances that this would not happen again. It would not surprise me that the next time you enter the place the same picture would set off the same action.

Marie You were bit by the Metro Golden Misers. I would of asked them if they could spell Greektown unless they came up with a nice dinner.
Why don't you drop Grabowski a note at the News? If they see there name in print, it might make them a little more sensative to their patrons.

marie you are such a bad girl, lol. I can't believe they wouldn't at the very least give you a meal for your their hassling you the way they did. I also don't know if they use the same recognition computer software as is used in Las Vegas so I doubt that they could capture your photographic image, scan and compare it and have the infor at the ready when you are at the entrance. Maybe they got your photo in the parking garage? As for being 86'd in casinos my attorney's uncle wrote the book on it, literally. He was the very first name entered in the famous Las Vegas black book and his name remained number 1 until about 4 years after his death. Something about being hooked up with the Chicago mob. Again I am sorry you had to go through that. Regards, Ted.

SM, royal flush, faygo and Tedlark, Thanks for your input! I probably aroused suspicion in the parking lot. It was early, no moving vehicles and I was driving a larger car than usual. I cut across a few empty lanes to enter a space from the wrong way and park closer to the door. I squared up a few times. After I had locked the car, I decided to try one more time to do a better job of car park to avoid possible road rage from a loser. Then I decided to stuff a water bottle and yogurt into my jacket pockets. That could have been one of my mistakes, partially caught on camera. I had dropped the names of Windsor and Greektown twice, to the guard and supervisor. When I was about to leave the casino, the guard, on break, walked past me and she apologized profusely. I asked for her name and that of the supervisor. She provided them without hesitation. (I try to catch a name when I am making reservations, checking on a bill, etc.) I mentioned I was a writer and on my way to Greektown.A dentist friend once told me he learned early on never to admit guilt. I believe the guard and supervisor had also learned not to volunteer information, to avoid future repercussions.

Marie, it's a damn shame you had to go through such an experience. Perhaps you'll not wear that embellished casino shirt next trip and wear the proper " I love my VP.com" t-shirt for good reference. I haven't or hope never to experience anything like this although someone I know did get 86'ed for being belligerent. (is that what you did?) As Ted mentioned, I'm surprised they don't use the same recognition software that LV uses for undesirables. Ask Faygo!

ed do you need to go back to powdered milk for a while? You know the old expression, "I'd recognize that face anywhere." They do!

The only place I was Kicked out of was California Club. And that was because I wasn't playing! I was just checking paytables looking for something close to 100% (FYI, I found NOTHING). But security caught up with me at the top of the escalator and gave me NO explanation. Just two hercules types, one starring me down and the other calling in details from my ID. They eventually let me go and said only that I "Looked suspicious".
Now, I've been backed off of blackjack tables a couple of times and once, grabbed my chips and ran for the door when I saw three suits in the pits with one on the phone and all three starring at me. Good grief, I was ONLY counting <LOL> My wife came back the next day with the chips and cashed them for me. It's not a comfortable situation to be in but it goes with the territory if you count cards.
