The TRUTH about "Fiscal Conservatives"

Post by DaBurglar »

http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2 ... aging=1The above article is a very eye opening discussion of the current fiscal "mess" in Washington, and who really is to blame....The DOGMA of the last 30 years, starting with Reagan, is that  REPUBLICANS are the party of fiscal responsibility and conservatism, but in reality they are the TOTAL OPPOSITE!  This is called HYPOCRISY, which is really a form of deception, or LYING....and the trouble is most americans, whether republican or democrat, have NO clue at all about how things work or even how to perform basic math. Those of us (like me) who studied MAcro Policy and Accounting, who truly understand ECONOMICS as it applies to REALITY (and not what people mindlessly REPEAT over and over thinking that it will eventually be believed if they KEEP repeating it)  have known all along that what gets peddled in the media from so called "fiscal conservatives" like today's republican party is 100% baloney.let me state right now that I have MANY MANY PROBLEMS with the Democratic party (they are way too inclusive and filled with special interest groups with influence and power that far outweighs their true importance, and they are NOT the best party in terms of foreign policy...when it comes to dealing with the tyrants and insecurity in the world, I lean toward the RIGHT.)But when it comes to the economy, specifically the Government's role, I embrace the viewpoints of that article.   PLEASE PLEASE read it before automatically responding or merely offering more....DOGMA.

I know I will catch hell for this but I totally agree with you. When the Republicans are in control they spend like drunken sailors on their own agenda to the extent of pushing our great country over the edge financially. People don't really know how close we came to falling off the cliff after 8 years of Bush Jr. many of which were also controlled by a Rep. house and senate. I really don't care for either party but the Republican party is the most self serving of the two.

The President LEADS (ie sets direction, rallies support) and the Congress SPENDS.

To compare Obama vs Bush with regard to spending is like blaming the waitress for your steak not cooked correctly.

Cheney/Rumsfeld gave us all the biggest con job in the history of this great country and those on both sides of the aisle bit on it hook, line, and sinker. So never underestimate the power of the presidential branch of our government. The whole time Bush was predident I asked myself who is really in charge. And to be fair the same thing can be said concerning the goings on in this administration as well.

Chatty, I applaud your willingness to speak the truth and also to voice your own opinion, and I applaud your ability to read that article and understand the outright hypocrisy and lies that the republicans have been spewing on autopilot.......but I also admire how you can see the problems with the democrats as well......there is drastic need in this country for a THIRD PARTY, something that will FORCE the other two parties to STOP screwing around and catering to the special interests in each of their parties and instead focus on doing what is BEST for EVERYONE.Not every group, or party or constituency is going to "Have its own way"....neither party is 100% correct or 100% wrong in its overall viewpoints and methods of governing.......this GRIDLOCK is total BS, and they all deserve to be fired (Dems and Repubs)The President LEADS (ie sets direction, rallies support) and the Congress SPENDS.

To compare Obama vs Bush with regard to spending is like blaming the waitress for your steak not cooked correctly. This is an EXCELLENT point sir....you exhibit a real understanding of how our government works and is structured (as the Constitution defines it)The President ultimately does NOT spend a dime, it is CONGRESS that both taxes and spends.......the President Suggests, or recommends a BUDGET each fiscal year and then ASKS congress to implement it......the President SUGGESTS Tax policy and then ASKS congress to implement it.....This is a nice benefit for the average congressional rep or senator  that the PRESIDENT is seen and perceived by the vast MAJORITY of americans as shouldering the blame (or taking the credit) when things go bad, or suddenly improve. Its one of the great fallacies of modern society in the USA.....much like a head coach or manager gets all the blame when his team (i.e. players) lose & play like crap, and likewise gets too much credit when they win, the President of the USA is a lightning rod for whatever is GOOD or BAD with the economy.   It is total BSBush I (GEORGE H.W. Bush) in 1988 promised "No new taxes" (which really meant he would never ASK congress for new taxes.)  But in 1991 in response to the increase in defense spending from the gulf war, Bush I  realized we needed more revenue to pay for it, so he asked congress to INCREASE existing taxes by a small margin (i.e. he kept his word, these were not "NEW" taxes)......but he got killed in the election by Clinton's spin doctors who helped american voters conclude that Bush I  had violated his word!FYI I am a big FAN of the first Bush presidency (i.e. "the dad")....now he really was a fiscally RESPONSIBLE president who understood that to payoff existing debt, you need BOTH growth and taxes combined with controlling spending!BUSH II (the son) was not great but also not quite as bad as perceived, but blame the congress of his 8 years for the mess he left behind.......likewise with Obama, the guy has been cursed by a congress that REFUSES to do its job, to GOVERN, and instead idly sits by and allows the president to take the heat and blame for EVERYTHING that is wrong with society...If each american voter truly wants to make a difference and feel "empowered", they should be calling, or banging on the door of their congressional representative (or one of their two Senators) and FORCE that person to stop being a deadbeat and actually WORK on what they are supposed to be working on......!WHo can argue with that, regardless of whether you are Democrat or Republican?
