This notion that video poker pros all come from wealthy families is really bonkers.
I find this an interesting comment. It begs some questions. What is the definition of a "video poker professional"? Is it someone who plays VP for their sole livelihood? Someone who lives a nice lifestyle from VP or someone who supplements their income from other sources ? Is someone who plays quarter VP and nets a small profit a professional?
Unless you live in a box under an overpass, I assume you must net at least $30K a year to live. To make $30K consistently playing VP, how much of a bankroll do you need? How do you get that bankroll? You may not have been born rich, but you weren't on food stamps either. Video poker requires money to play. This money must be disposable or the slightest downturn will bust you.
A poor kid growing up in a project can make himself wealthy through sports. The NFL and NBA is full of these stories. The idea that you can become rich through video poker without being rich in the first place is not believable. I guess that depends on your definition of rich. Either way, VP professional is not a career choice for bag ladies.
