9/6 Jacks or Better popularity?
Just curious if anyone here is drawn to 9/6 JOB games? When I've gone to the casinos, it seems like a big deal is made of 9/6, or there are always some dedicated machines for it. Is that because it is more well-known as the best pay table for that game (even though less than 100%)?
Is Jacks or Better a game that a lot of "amateurs" who are just trying VP for the first time are attracted to?
It seems like everyone here likes other game types with bonuses or wilds, but casinos seem to really like the 9/6 machines so they must get a lot of play. Or maybe people just talk about the other types more and also play JOB in the casino?
What do people think?

I have a short bankroll and I feel I can play for several hours on a twenty playing 9/6 JOB. So I play JOB until I have a larger bankroll. If I get lucky and get it up some often I will switch to deuces or to ddb. But when I get down I go back to JOB.
I am not sure that this is what you are asking but from short bankroll this is a good way to play.

Thanks wilcox, I'm curious if everyone else is like that too. I don't think I have touched JOB in the casinos except for the tournament I tried.
But my main game so far has been deuces, which is also very low variance and I can play a long time with a lower bankroll.

JOB is the original VP game. It is also one of the easiest to learn and is recommended for new players by many experts. It has a low hourly cost which makes it a good starting point. Most players get bored with it after awhile and migrate to games like BP and then DDB.
I wouldn't say casinos like the game so much as there is always a demand for it and casinos without it will lose that business.

I agree with SM on why the casinos have it. Also while JOB returns 99.54 it is mostly played by beginners and I suspect because of learning mistakes returns a whole lot less.
I will play JOB when I get stupid and move up to the $2 level. Just too hairy to play the high varience games for me at that level.

Variance and simplicity of strategy are reasons I still play JOB. It is always the first strategy recommended in the gaming literature of video poker. Thanks to Shadowman and Mike A. I'm now play Deuces Wild and DDB. Did I understand Shadowman correctly when he said the strategy for OEJ was 200 + pages long?

Well it might be that long if you put one line on each page.
OTOH, you can check out the number of base strategy items on vpgenius.com and then imagine the number of penalty situations. It would go for several pages but not 200.

Read today on gambling in space, Venetian now offers 9/6 Job at the $25 level and up. Great for comps or C/B but not for the average OEJ. They used to carry at the $5 and $10 levels but have since dropped or adjusted the paytables. $5 machine still at 9/6 but RF pays out 2500. Imagine finally hitting that coveted RF at the $5 level and only getting 12,500 instead of 20k. Just another reason to pay attention to paytables fellow players!

My opinion on JOB is that like everyone says, it has to be the easiest strategy to learn with the possible exception of DDB. It does have a high ER compared to most games you'll find. More places will offer JOB at 9/6 than other games probably because the casino is going to come out ahead on it even with perfect play from their patrons. Granted, they might give enough back in comps and CB to some few players who do play it perfectly to make it a PE game but their loss I would bet is more than made up for by the people who do not play it perfectly. Plus, the CB and comps are all part of their marketing budget! Most people who have ever read anything about VP know that 9/6 JOB is a good game even if they don't know proper strategy. I do think that is why you see (or at least I see) more people playing it than any other game even if it carries 6/5 paytables! Name Recognition draws people to it. If the casinos have any sense, they will overload the floor with JOB simply because people play it!The few gamblers playing JOB that I've talked to usually snort at the bonus games because they do not want to give up the 2:1 for two pair. At least, that's what I've heard a lot in the casinos.

Thanks everyone, that makes a lot of sense.
