Live Tournaments
I will be in Vegas from the 17th to the 24th of this month. I will be playing in a live VP (Double Double Bonus) tournament at the Orleans on the 21st. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of all VP tournaments? Believe it or not, the information is hard to find on the web!
Thanks and wish me luck!

I keep getting tournament offers from the orleans (and previously from the stardust) but have never participated. want to one day.
btw, if you setup a logon on boyd's new website, www.bconnectedonline.com, it will show you all offers you have available throught their properties.

theflop,
is the tournament you're playing in the "Winter Wonderland" Tournament? If so, I got the invitation to that.

Yes, that is the Winter Wonderland offer. I was going to go anyways in December so I delayed my trip one for it. Hopefully I will do well. I am a pretty fast player normally so maybe that will help. I am using this website and Bob Dancer strategy cards to prepare for the Double Double Bonus which what the touney is using.
Anybody else for tournament info?
Thanks!
P.S. My original flight date for December had me landing when the snow was falling there. I wouldv'e been stuck in Detroit because of all of the cancelled flights. So it worked out great...just a nice coincidence that I changed my plans a few days before. So now it'll be in the low 60's when I get there and like 20 F here!

If this tournament is typical of many other DDB tournaments I've seen then speed and normal strategy will not do you much good. The ones I've seen allow enough time for average speed players to play alll the credits (typically 1000 credits and 20 minutes). In addition, if this is a 2 or 3 round tournament with a couple hundred players then you will have to hit a RF to win. Even cashing will usually require hitting quad aces or many other quads.
If these are the rules for your tournament then you will need to rethink your approach. First, you need to determine your goal. If winning is your goal then you should go for a RF whenever possible. If cashing is your goal then you should go for quads (that usually means tossing two pair).
So, check the rules. They are important.

the rules for this particular tourney are as follows:
3 rounds of play over 2 days, pays up to 150th place based on 300 entrants and each session is 15 minutes.

You left out the number of points but I'll assume 1000 credits since that is pretty standard. That means 300 players times 3 rounds times 200 hands. A total of 180K hands (probably a little less as there are always a few slow players). That means you should expect 4 royals at a minimum. If lots of people are going for royals it could be 6 or 7. There should also be 16 AWAK. As you can see these become required hands to place anywhere near the top.
Now, you need to determine your goal. That will determine your strategy.

i don't know anything else about the tourney except what i posted above. i'm not playing in it but i just read the few details the offer explained.
aren't the machines used for the tourneys generally looser than regular machines? (i've seen some roped off in the casino before and they weren't typical vp machines).

Well with the weather in the 60s while you are there, if you are a golfer take your clubs with you. Plenty of great golf courses there. Its a little pricey this time of year but well worth the money depending on where you want to hit the ball. Good luck.

Oops, I forgot who started the thread.
In any event, the vast majority of VP tournaments use standard machines. Slot tournaments are known for using much higher return machines.
