Hi 2007poker,

It does seem like sometimes when you get that multiplier you can't seem to get a winner.  The multiplier comes up at random, and unfortunately, they came up when you had some bad hands dealt to you.  Super Times Pay is one of my favorite games at the casino, and trust me, you can get some decent winners with that multiplier.  The thing about this game though is that it is VERY volatile.  The odds on Super Times Pay are slightly better than non-super times pay games of the same game, but you could put quite a bit more money in super times pay to see results.

Check out the post on this forum on "Video Poker Stories" and click on "Big Day at the Taj."  You'll see myself and a few others talk about how good the game can be if you can get lucky enough to get that pesky multiplier to come up when you want it to.

Remember one thing, if you are playing deuces wild, you should play the exact same strategy on super times pay when you get the multiplier.  The strategy doesn't change when you get the multiplier.  Not sure if that helps or not..

Sounds like some bad luck. Been there, done that. However, don't base any judgement on a single session. Believe me, you can have fantastic luck or horrible luck. It all evens out over time.

PS. Yesterday at a triple play NSUD machine I hit nothing on a single deuce hold 8 times in an hour. This is not unusual.

2007poker,

I am famous (haha) in vp circles for being the lucky SOB who hit a STP machine for $73K in Laughlin two years ago. So it does happen! However, I am also the guy who has poured a lot of money into STP machines with no return. As NJMike said, this is one volatile game!

Yes Rascal, details please!  I'm still kinda new to the forum myself, what denom were you playing, and what hands did you get?

Find I enjoy the combination of plain video poker strategy plus the unexpected super x pay rounds that kick it up a notch.  Agree that since you are playing multiple hands AND paying an extra coin to dance with the bonus it can be really volatile.Recently visited Reno and played at Peppermill - only saw one bank in the whole casino (near the Oceana seafood restaurant) but it was 9/6 JOB at the quarter level.

The winning hand was STP DDB 2222A $1 denom dealt with multiplier of 10. The $73K was after taxes were withheld. The actual taxable jackpot was $80K. The handsome photo on the winners wall is not retouched, folks --- that's your's truly. I was also on their website for almost a year in the #1 winner's position until some snarky woman took the wheel of fortune for $675K!

The deal came as 2-2-multiplier-2-2. So after I had the first two 2's, then I got the 10 multiplier and I thought, hmmm, I might be able to score a quad X 10 off of this, thinking in my mind like $4000. Then I got the A under the multiplier and I still didn't make any connection even after the last two 2's fell into place. It was not until the machine locked up and the JACKPOT! CALL ATTENDANT! notice starting flashing that I finally fully realized.

Of course, this was one of the few nights when that very good casino was operating short staffed, and it took forever to get the taxes finalized. However, I didn't mind waiting!!

Now, the story gets even more amazing. The same night I took the STP jackpot, I also hit 4 dueces on a DWBP machine at the same casino on $5 denom for $5K pre-tax.

And get this.....every machine I played that night was for either $2 or $5. The only reason I was playing $1 on the STP machine is because that was the highest limit on that machine. If it had $2 or $5 available, I probably would have been playing at one of those levels. But....never look a gift horse in the eye!

However, before anyone starts thinking I am one of those cocky winners....I have also lost a lot! I am one of the top contributors to the "Casino Owners' Cadillac Fund".

P.S.....if you play on any machine at anytime with a denom to put you in a tax liability position, I urge you to keep a won-loss diary. This is all you need if you get audited, assuming you keep it properly. And STP has tremendous tax liability potential!!!!!!!

It sounds like you were playing 10 play, for a cost of $60 per hand-is that correct? How much had you put into the machine before you were dealt that hand?

Exactly....10 play at $1 is $60 per hand on STP. I started with $800 and had it up to just over $1200 when the jackpot hand was dealt.
