Typical stellar advice from FP. He consistently makes up
for his poor judgment by posting more here than anybody else. I hope the
rest of you aren't sucked in by his "good ideas."
Congratulations, I'm happy for you. You took a 400 hand a week pot shot and it worked out. I know you'll say it wasn't a pot shot because you had the advantage, but the results are the same no matter what you call it.On a serious note, I wouldn't for a minute think you would play anywhere where you didn't absolutely know you were going to be paid. I am curious to know if you made a profit and if you're going back for more?

I am curious to know if you made a profit and if you're going back for more? The usual definition of "pot shot" means you are playing for bigger stakes than you can afford --- and are only playing a few hands, hoping to get lucky. That was NOT the case here. Calling it such shows your lack of knowledge. If you re-read your comment you'll see you were preaching to me. Not so long ago you suggested that I was responsible for all video poker players at Gamblers Anonymous! And you regularly complain that I pick on you. If you don't want negative comments from me, stay out of my face! And don't write such ignorant things in this forum. Better yet, get a bigger lock box and lock yourself in it! That way you're guaranteed not to lose more than you can afford. The reason I only play $50,000 coin-in a week at Dotty's is because I want to keep the mailers coming. They add about 0.4% if I've been losing recently (as I said in the column, about $200 weekly for $50K play), and 0.0001% if I've hit a big jackpot recently. Hitting deuces or a royal knocks me out of business for four months. I thought I explained that clearly in the column. I could easily play $500,000 or more a week there --- but playing more at Dotty's would drive my mailers to zero as I'll get deuces and/or a royal virtually every month, and probably my welcome would be kaput as well. These are 15-machine outlets. Hitting them too hard will kill the golden goose.I've been playing there for 8-10 years. Of course I'm ahead! Why do you ask such stupid questions? It's a game with a nice edge and over time that edge manifests itself. Despite the stuff you preach, luck has very little to do with the winning process. For those who congratulated me on the royal, thank you. But it was just one royal flush. If you play enough, they happen regularly. I'm neither under-royaled nor over-royaled. I've hit 30 or so royals so far this year --- mostly smaller than this one --- and more than 100 last year. For those who are shocked by how many royals I've hit, I do play on a Hundred Play machine at one casino and on 9-line Spin Poker machines at two others. At another casino I play on Ten Play machines. On multi-line games, you get royals quite a bit faster than you do on single-line games.I don't usually write about my royals in my LVA blog --- unless there's a lesson to share. This time I thought there was such a lesson, so I shared it.

In early March I hit for $100,000, which put me $90,000 ahead after my
last previous break. So I will take off until August 1. I would rather
not take the time off, but my EV goes way down unless I do. It has
happened that I took four months off, came back and hit a set of deuces
in five hands, and immediately took off the next four months as well.So Bob do you just leave the free play you built up and forget about it? Do you send someone in to play it off for you? I'm lost here since you say you play to get mailers and free play to off set a game. Then hit a jackpot and don't bother with the free play money?

I'm lost here since you say you play to get mailers and free play to off set a game. Then hit a jackpot and don't bother with the free play money? It's not free play, but rather cash back, in the form of a check payable at any Dotty's, and it's good for a year after it's issued. I collect it monthly when I'm playing. No need for a special trip during my down period..My mailers go essentially to zero so I'm not giving up anything there. I do go back and see if any of my W2Gs received the 10% bonus. I've never received a $10,000 bonus there (out of four $100,000 royals) and I've received one $2,500 bonus (out of maybe 15 sets of $25,000 deuces.) I'm running slightly salty on these larger bonuses, although it's too small a sample to prove they are not paying them off appropriately.I am getting close to 10% of my $125, $200, and $313 bonuses for straight flushes, quints, and dirty royals respectively. There are three or four Dotty's within five miles from my house. It's not a big burden to go and check.
If you don't want negative comments from me, stay out of my face!
When I read about your recent $100,000 win, I could almost hear players all over the country riffling through their dresser drawers searching for their players card. You and the gambling industry have the most incredible synergy. They let you play huge stakes knowing you have the advantage, you hit big jackpots and tell everyone on the planet how and where you did it and the players flock in trying to duplicate your results. Then, you tell everyone that looses they don't have the intelligence, skill or discipline to do what you do. This is like waving a red flag in front of a bull and they charge back for even bigger loses. That's the real Dancer strategy and it's working perfectly.

Forgive me for repeating myself, but as a new player, I could really use the help.
If a place has a good game for dollars, but a lousy payout for quarters, are you better off playing the better game for less than max coins?
If a place has a good game for dollars, but a lousy payout for quarters,
are you better off playing the better game for less than max coins?
This would be a good subject for a new thread. There are those who will tell you to always play max coins. This is because you will give up the royal flush bonus by playing single coin which is worth about 1.5%. It also has to do with how you feel about royal flushes. If you have never hit one, it would could be devastating if you hit one for $250 instead of $1,000 and your friends will call you an idiot for playing that way. Other people will tell you to never play a negative game at all. As we both know, this is not a real option for most recreational players. If you are a professional or want to be, this is good advice.I am strictly a recreational player and for me, It depends on the odds. For example, at my local casino the single coin dollar odds are nearly 2% higher than the max coin quarter odds. If I had a limited budget I would play single coin dollars. I think the best option would be to play max coin dollars, but many players don't have the bankroll to do so.I'm sure others will be happy to give you their input as well. I'm just giving you my personal answer and my choices are not necessarily right for everyone.
