I always break my play down into $20 bills even if playing
dollars. I do this so I can gauge where I am financially, not because I
want to jump ship after 4 hands. Knowing where you are is helpful
information to a recreational player as it helps you avoid making bad
decisions.  If your strategy is based on math, you don't need to know as
you can always scoop up another pile of cash and throw it into the
fire.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yeah. Get out of that inferno after burning two twenties max! You will be eviscerated. Do NOT go on tilt. Just get the hell off.
This has a lot of merit for me. Author? I'm definitely on his wavelength.
I don't want anyone to think I am promoting commercial products or services on this forum.  If someone else wants to do that, they should be a sponsor and buy ad space.  The only exception has been Dancer's VPW software, which I think is a "must have" for any serious VP player.   All the VP authors I have ever read have some good points and all have been worth reading.  Despite claims to the contrary, I have not had any of them convince me they can predict the cards that will appear when I play.  However, you don't have to agree with everything they write to gain something useful.   If you message me, I will be happy to give you the author and title of the book you asked about.

Phil, Is the book in LEARN -> BOOKS AND RESOURCES on this web site? If not, it probably isn't a problem if you list the book/author. If it is a problem, webman will remove it.

I will respond to a personal message so I don't get in the middle of anything.   Banning books is not something I believe in, but we have enough controversy without starting new ones.  The world is full of one sided books.  I think it's a good idea to read and listen to all opinions.  How else are you going to evaluate what's best for you?I'm going to Tampa tomorrow.  I'll be moving from machine to machine like I always do.   I'll play 98% VP and a few slots and I don't expect to win a million dollars.  I won't lose a million unless the stock market crashes while I'm gone.   If that happens, I might stay a few more days.

The games inventory shows Tampa has a 50 play machine. You can see the denomination it has and the paytables. Or if the 50 Play machine is even in the casino. This would be used for your cost chart.

Hi Phil and gang. I think I owe Phil a bit more than a cup of coffee and bagel this time. I have been reading with interests the posts recently about Bonus Poker. Years ago, Mohegan Sun pulled the 99.1% machines. They have the 7/5 98% ones, but on principal, I haven't played them. Anyway, last night I wasn't doing much at Mohegan and took a side trip to Foxwoods. I haven't been back since a deer totaled my wifes Sentra with just me driving in the car. I was lucky and escaped with minor bruises. I still feel bad for the deer hich was killed. I had left her for an hour at Mohegan and ran up there for an hour to use the free play and the deer nailed me on the way back. I was only doing 30mph.
I digressed for a moment, but here is what happened last night. I had only ten bucks free play at Foxwoods and decided on a whim to play the 7/5 Bonus poker at the dollar level. I put in my own hundred in with the free play and decided that would be it if nothing good happened. I was back and forth for a half hour and had hit one quad for 125 bucks and a few hands later I had taken a pot shot or two at bet 8 bucks a hand.
I was dealt 4 to the Royal in spades and wow! I drew the queen I needed. $ 6400 hand pay. Out of there like a flash and after coffee went straight home even though I have the room for 2 nights at Mohegan. This year has been kind to me healthwise, but not so much on vp so this was a big help on ending the year in a bit better shape. Thanks again Phil and gang for talking about 7/5 bonus poker. Its a nice break from Deuces.

I'm glad it worked out for you.  My check's in the mail?I just came back from one of the weirdest VP days I have ever had.  I always try to limit my loses to no more than 1,000 coins a day.  I drove over to Tampa early this morning.  My plan was to play 50 cent Bonus Poker.  I had $75 in free play, so I started with my favorite slot.   I hit 25 extra spins right away and won $200.  I pocketed the ticket and after I played all my free play I walked down to the non smoking casino to play VP.   Over the next three hours I never hit a single quad.   I was down to my last $100 when I switched to deuces wild 50 cents.  With $25 bucks left I hit a quad deuce for $500.  I decided to play down to $500 and go home when I hit another quad deuce for an additional $500.  I couldn't believe my good fortune, back to back quad deuces!  On the way out the door I hit my favorite slot again and won another $300.   What a day!   Today I played Bonus Poker, Double Double Bonus, Triple Double Bonus and nothing worked except Deuces Wild.  It sure was a "Wild " kind of day.  Amazing....

The low variance allows me to play max coins comfortably at higher denominations, so I don't have the urge to change my bet and I earn a lot of comp points.  It sure is nice to double your money with two pair.   Another reason I like Bonus Poker is in Deuces your day depends on quad deuces or a royal.

Been playing a whole lot of Jacks or Better at the $1 level this month. Some BP nothing else. First
trip hit 15 four of a kinds in 4 1/2 hours. Was down $700 at one point
but found some hot machines by moving, 3500 hands. Left down $15Sundays trip 8 hours had 22 four of a kinds in 6000 hands, was down $600 at one point, left down $10.I
play $50 per machine and move on a 4ok, if i double my $50 I play till I
hit the 4ok or back down to my $50 and cash out and move. Been working
well. If I lose my $50 I move. Some times I will hit many bad machines
dropping 50 after 50 but sooner then later I land in the hot seat and
the hits come in.I see a 4k royal yet this month am hoping.I have to agree Phil getting that 2 pair money
keeps the play going. I been staying away from other games. Jacks and BP
are my two right now. I do miss them Deuces! The BP I play pays 175 for all 4ok.Had a surprise with the single hold Queen and the all 4 Jacks came along for the ride!Good luck chasing the royal!///

Quad based games are great when quads are happening.  Unfortunately, quads have a tendency to go on "hiatus".  I remember reading one of Dancer's books where he said "Some days quads happen and some days they don't."  He definitely got this right. Over the last six months I changed the way I play VP.   I decided to try something different as grinding it out was just not working for me.  I know the computer strategy for Jacks & Bonus, DDB, TDB and Deuces
Wild and have no problem switching play between them.  I do not claim to
be able to play 100% perfect, but I can avoid major mistakes.   These days I like to start out with Bonus Poker.  If it's a  "Quad" kind of day, I will stay with it.   I may move to DDB or even TDB if things get crazy.   If I don't hit a quad in a couple of hours, I move to Deuces Wild.  I also play slots, which has added significantly to my bankroll, comps and free play.  I never put more than $20 in one machine at a time unless I'm significantly ahead.  Whenever I win $100 or more, I cash out put the ticket in my wallet and start over.  If a machine is dead or goes cold, I walk.  I keep my limits relatively low and when I've won enough or lost enough to suit me, I go home.  This alone has had more of a positive effect on my results than anything else.I never play single coin anymore unless I want to take a cheap shot on a $5 or $10 machine.  On a machine that big, even a single coin jackpot is a good thing.  If you get a run up on one of those machines, you are going home happy.  Playing single coin quarters is a good way to play a lot of VP on a budget, but it's murder on your comps and free play.  Switching games like I do comes with potential consequences.  There is always the chance you will hit 4 aces playing Deuces or quad deuces playing Jacks.  I see VP as mostly about luck.  What happens to my wallet is all about whether or not I hit the very small number of lucky hands.  Out of the thousands of hands I play in a day, only a few make any real difference.  Everyone has to decide for themselves what works for them.  If you play VP for fun like I do, it's all part of the game.
