Re: COVID-19 Casino Impact
I live 50 miles south of NYC on the Jersey Shore, so I get the local NYC news on all TV channels. Here is how I see it. Both Cuomo and DiBlasio were encouraging people to go about their daily business pretty late into this Pandemic. Cuomo has been praised, rightfully so, for his calm demeanor at his pressers, but he is saying the same things Trump is, only he is not bragging about his work effort. He also wants people to get back to work asap, but with safeguards. I grew up in NYC and know all about Trump. My father in law worked for his dad Fred Trump and managed some of his buildings. He always said Donald was a jerk when it came to business. I have no reason to doubt him. Having said that, I am a results oriented person and I think Trump has done a good job on just about everything, and in particular the economy. So I will overlook his personal traits. Some people apparently can't do this. I honestly feel sorry for them because I believe they are at their core, bitter and unhappy people. I never felt the hatred I see directed at Trump for Obama or Hillary or any Dem. People, get your act together.

A point to consider for CAR,TED,NOTES,JS,FP,OLD's and other rational posters.
Just an opinion on my part, but here is how i see it. Your "pissing into the wind"!!
vman, and seemore,(caps. not deserved),are not worth your time. They are losers.
They are blinded by the liberal education system and the biased and dying media outlets they consume.
Their not re-educateable because they are dead certain that their progressive socialist lib.mentality is, not only correct, but needs to be inflicted on you. They cannot compete in the arena of ideas which is why they do not respond to valid points of criticism of their long history of socialist FAILURES!!
Example: dems.in the house holding up the virus bill. Not even mentioned in their media, ergo, it does not EXIST to them!! This delay will cost American lives, which will instead be blamed on TRUMP!!
I know we all have more time on our hands these day's, so tweak the troll's if you wish, but i suggest that you have no illusion that they are rational people.

Thanks for the personal attack. I appreciate it. Have I ever done that to you? Am I not allowed to be critical of my President and think he does a poor job? I thought this was a free country. And when do I actually make an irrational argument on this forum??? I watch other people do it here constantly with regards to video poker, but I gave up arguing them unless I think it REALLY matters to AVOID misinformation. Trump in this crisis has been the king of misinformation. So yeah, I'm gonna speak up.
And Jesus, I gave him credit for locking down China very early. Hillary (if she was in this spot) would have probably bungled that one big time.

Personal attacks won't help anyone recover from this virus. In my lifetime I have never seen anything shut down the entire world economy. That's the bad news. The good news is we are all focused on something other than our petty differences.
Back in the early eighties, I took a consulting job at 725 5th Ave in NY (Trump Tower). Growing up in Florida, I was used to doing business with people you liked. When I walked in the front of the building, I saw the huge gold "T" in the lobby. I knew what I was getting into. Every NY businessman I have ever dealt with was a jerk of some kind. That's the way business is done there. This is not intended as an insult to New Yorker's. It's a fact of doing business. They treated me well and paid me on time. I never felt comfortable. I did my job.
If you elect a nice guy for President, you will get another President Carter or Obama. The Presidency of the United States is not a job for nice guys. It takes one tough SOB to deal with the likes of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea. Trump is not the kind of guy I would invite to dinner and I don't walk around with a MAG hat either. He is exactly the man we need right now.

Tech58, surely you can understand that criticizing a politician is very different that personally demeaning other forum members here. Just because the President regularly calls his opponents "losers" does not make it acceptable to do so here towards other members.

I could care less who is president, frankly. I am reading some interesting comments here. From my perspective as a (happily retired) medical professional, it makes no difference to me who did what right or wrong to create this situation --- the only thing that counts now is getting us out of this situation with the fewest human casualties and the least long-term economic damage.
I frankly felt like we were on the road to possibly achieving both of those goals, but the comments of the president that he wants to re-open the country by a set date in April do more harm than good, in my opinion.
First, we are at a stage now where it is medically impossible to even remotely project where this outbreak will be in a week, a month, or two months. This is because of the absolutely unprecedented contagion situation.
Secondly, I believe it is wrong to adjust people's thinking from settling in for a long-term fight to hanging in there for just two more weeks and then this will all be over with. It will not, sadly. It is going to with us for a while, and anyone who projects precisely (or generally) how long it will be with us should be ignored.
Let's beat this outbreak together, using the most powerful weapon our country has to fight a highly contagious disease. That weapon is isolation. Be you a Republican, a Democrat, a Socialist, or apolitical, know that to win over Covid19, everyone needs to take personal isolation (and social distancing) seriously.

vman and all;
-do yourself a favor and replay the daily presser each day. don't want to hear trump, skip his comments. but, do listen to fauci and birx. they are the experts. yesterdays presser was the most optimistic i had heard, since they began.
-test everyone in the country?, all 300+ million. what happens a week later, one could be exposed in the meantime, retest everyone again. and, then do it again, a week later.
-the tracking system n.korea did, is likely illegal in the usa
-according to dr. birx, most of those zones with 200 cases, WERE and continue to test. they just don't have the density problem that others face. there are also many areas of the country where people are naturally more separated, like texas. 2nd largest populated state, lots of land mass, normal separation, greatly reduced homeless population, far fewer cases.
-both the dem governor and dem mayor should never have allowed mardi gras to take place in NO.
-unfortunately, there were delays and problems with the CDC (not due to funding), in the beginning. go ahead, blame trump for that.
-dr. birx stated that initially, the attack against the virus was done 'bluntly", but now, she states (and cuomo agrees), their actions can know be done on a 'laser' basis.
the entire country does not need to be treated the same. if one lives in a dense population, that is the risk one takes. if that group does not heed the government instructions (as cuomo stated), it will only worsen the situation. if one is in the most vulnerable groups (like me), they need to take added precautions.

Great post Rascal. Probably overall the best post on this entire thread. You hit the nail on the head. Let's keep politics out of it. I will if the rest of you will.
