Good for you, LL, for starting this interesting topic in the first place. But also for getting involved when seeing something that should not be happening. We should all follow your lead and do likewise be it in a casino or anywhere else. Unless we are out numbered or it appears our safety might be seriously jeopardized if we try to help or alert others to a problem. It's funny. A gal from this site had a similar experience, as she played VP, when a disheveled (read: tattooed and pierced)  female approached her and said "I'm your good luck charm"...."SECURITY!" she yelled and the individual LEFT asap. Different casino and different state, yet same M O. This leads me to believe there is a MANUAL on HOW TO DISTRACT OTHERS IN A CASINO!

Ocasionally my girlfriend like to play the slot machines. When I`m done playing I`ll sit in a chair in the row behind her ( backwards, the veiw of the screen is better ) and watch her. One night a guy walks up and sits down next to her and starts playing slowly and watcing her play. Then tries to start a conversation. Obviously he looking for a little companionship. I just wait and sat in my seat waiting for him to give " THAT LOOK OVER AT ME " when my girlfriend tells him that she is with me. Now I`m 6' 2" tall and I`m not skinny. Then sure enough here come the "LOOK". So I just give a smile and wave and then see how FAST they cash-out and leave. It is usually under a minute.
He move to another lady to try again. Then a security supervisor walks by so I told him and showed him the guy. Then we didn`t see him for the rest of the night.

I smoke, but I ask before I light up, if my machine mates would mind.  If they do - I don't. Being a smoker, it's annoying when you were sitting already smoking, and someone sits next to you and begins that cough, cough, wave, wave.  What part didn't you notice? Another night I had some lady next to me with a personal fan.  She started out with it pointed to the right, then decided to put the fan right in front of my screen to blow the smoke.  I wasn't the one smoking.  She was sitting on my left, and the smoker was to my right.  Even more annoying, this casino had a non-smoking room.  I couldn't see my screen, cashed out and left. I pet my screen, kinda like a thank you, if I win.  But have watched other people slap or pound the screens, and wondered what happens if they break.  Thanks for the info.

mightwin,
Thank you for your consideration for us non-smokers. I've never smoked but you certainly have the right to do so. If you are already at a machine it is up to me to then chose whether to play next to you. Many of the friends we've made at our regular haunt are heavy smokers and while it is sometimes really annoying we still enjoy their company while we play.

I've played so much poker in 18 years I've been around it all, from people punching and breaking the monitors out to people throwing up in their own lap.  To one lucky lady who hit Aces back to back to back.  And yes all the annoying players.  Just of the top of my head are a few and we have given them knicknames.
The shadow, this one guy who waits for me to pump $800+ into a machine and once I get up he jumps on it before I can even sit down at the machine I move to.

The Slapper, this one lady everytime she has a good drawing hand like trips just slaps the Deal button so hard it makes me jump everytime she does it.  And she is so quit in between.

Then my favorite, this one lady comes by and want to know if I have hit Aces or the little ones on Machine A,B,C or did anyone hit Aces if so which machine was it on.  Come on tell me, how long you been playing, which machines, who else is playing, which machines, any handpays, if so how much more more more....

Win big and report WINS back to us, butchp.I was determined to hit the progressive royal on DWB at Greektown yesterday and thinking of this forum topic. The lady next to me sneezed big time. She mumbled something about an allergy (One can only hope!) and then her cell phone rang for a double whammy....and the beat goes on.

Then my husband will know I was in a casino.2. Bess died of lung cancer and no one ever smoked in her home.3. Yvonne really really hates using her oxygen tank 24/7.4. My husband had to give up smoking for the last time, cold turkey, when his childhood asthma returned. Usually he is fine but a number of pollutants can set off a chronic/scary three week asthma attack. I probably wimp out something like "it's a smoking casino" or "a free world"...and will probably check out soon and move on.I believe we have met: That was me coughing and waving! So far, the VP machines out on the floor of any casino are better than those I have seen that are located in a non-smoking room.I also pet my VP screen when I win to encourage it to continue to smile on me. It has feelings too, you know.

That's what I think.  If you show the machine a little love, it might show you some back. One of the only places you can smoke now is a casino.  I do ask, because I don't want to upset anyone.   The lady with the fan in my face was lucky it didn't get stuck somewhere the sun don't shine.  Remember, I wasn't smoking - the person next to me was. If I'm smoking before you sit down, is it really fair to me that you don't like it?   By the way, if it's an older person or one that doesn't look in the best health, I move, or put it out.  If the person makes a production out of it, I continue on.   I don't think we've met yet.  I don't think you were frequented Sandia outside Albuquerque.  I would try my luck in the non-smoking room, and seemed to win faster.  (Or was it that I was rushing to go smoke one?)   I haven't had any problems in Las Vegas - there's enough machines to choose from. If it's me alone on the bank, I don't see a problem.
