I was thinking about staying at M next trip to Las Vegas.

I love the M, and it's a beautiful property, but it's just so in the middle of nowhere. I think the South Point is the closest casino to it, and even that's a few miles away. Plus they're just 'meh' on the video poker front.

I do like though that if you run just $850 through a video poker machine you can get a free lunch buffet (on weekdays). I've done that a few times, because I love their buffet!
But quarter "Airport Deuces" with 96 "free" craft beers to choose from doesn't sound too "meh" to me. But I'm also pretty good at playing slow... Hope to get back there in about two weeks!

You may be right about SP being the closest neighbor though. We went to M down LV Blvd the whole way once. It looked pretty dead beyond South Point. :(
The M Resort is "on the way home from Vegas" for myself on the Interstate 15 south. Always a good place to stop by for a last Vegas-value meal. I make it a point to do the 2000 point seafood buffet whenever I can. I've had the beer only once there, it came out much colder than most places I've tried and was so good.

I was also thinking about this place to stay in Vegas, but the 6 month tier expiration on Marquee Rewards with $3 coin in a point scared me off a lot, but I think I'll just pay the price to stay there now.

The LV Blvd heading into SouthPoint and M Resort is pretty much a designated residential area in Henderson. It is hard to see this at night time.
Probably the best trip report I've ever read from Phil by far. I think
overall, Phil's knowledge of succeeding in VP has significantly
increased.
People's opinions are based primarily on their own experiences. The only VP we have ever been exposed to are negative games, many of which have been seriously negative.  Since the introduction of casino gambling across the nation, most players outside of Nevada have no idea what real video poker is like.   All they see are continuous loses and they'll try anything to fix the problem.  The "free" Beau Rivage trips to Biloxi screwed up our thinking.   We were flattered by the free flights and rooms, but eventually realized they were shaking is down on every trip.  I'm still grappling with how I am going to balance my desire to play video poker locally with the crappy odds I am faced with.   Right now, the best I can do is drive four hours one way for Airport Deuces.  Perhaps I will cut my play down to once a month and stay for a couple of days at a time instead of playing lousy tables once a week.   If I ever do play bad games again, it will be for two hours max and I'll run for the door on any win.I'm sure there are plenty of readers on this forum who are in the same boat as I was.  If you must play lousy video poker, the best advice I can give you is to limit your play and don't expect to win long term.

Glad you had a great time and successful trip. We love the whole Red Rock experience and wouldn't think about staying elsewhere while in Vegas. Hopefully, you and your wife will get mailers with comp room offers though coming home a winner (assuming your winnings were not at South Point) may generate reduced rate offers.
That would be nice.  Actually, I think we were pretty good customers.  Together we ran at least $9,000 a day through the machines for 4 days straight.  Most of our play was at Red Rock.  I like them both, but my wife thinks South Point is for old people (if the shoe fits).

The first year we stayed at Red Rock, maybe 5 years ago, we also got an offer from Green Valley Ranch. We stayed there a few weeks later. Both were nice though Red Rock's rooms, etc. were the best we've had in Vegas. However, GVR at the time had VP equivalent to Red Rock. Haven't been back to GVR since then but I assume the VP remains good there.

As far as points earned, because they expire within six months, they are good to use to eat, play, etc. while there but not otherwise valuable to us. The room comp is the thing for us especially since they have thus far waived the resort fee.

I'm completely the opposite. The M is my first stop in when I go to vegas. I like to leave earlyish from the L.A. area, and so I get to Vegas around 10 or so. I play around on the VP and get my $850 in, and then get my free buffet, and then enjoy the rest of my Vegas trip.

A couple of you mentioned the beers at M... I don't drink at all, but maybe I should start!

I enjoyed reading your trip report, too, Phil.  After that Avis fiasco; I think I might have been very glad to be in Vegas (the happy town) and forget that MESS.  Avis, I HOPE; still doesn't advertise that they "try harder"

I'm sure I could have found full pay DDB if I had wanted to.

10/6 DDB at Red Rock is on the same units as the full pay deuces games. Those also have signs explicitly pointing >100% optimum return as well.

Glad you had a good time! Apart from that car rental snafu that is. But I like to say..."Get the bad luck out of the way early!"

If I recall correctly, I found 10/6 DDB near the exit close to the Yardhouse restaurant when we were there last year.
