Re: Worst malfunction story
Rbed, very cool under pressure! Having he presence of mind to ask for a supervisor is a brilliant move. I'd even call for an attendant from the next machine's screen. Why risk anything with a potentially wayward push after a jackpot?

I understand why it would auto-hold a royal but in reality it isn't REQUIRED to auto-hold a royal or AWAK (in TDB). There is no gaming regulation or law that says a person cannot dump 4 cards out of the 5 from a dealt royal to instead go for a king high straight flush. How often does a TDB player dump a dealt AAAXX full house to go for quad aces? Does the auto-hold automatically hold the full house and then let the player decide how to play out the hand from there? Don't players have the freedom to play the game in a manner of their choosing?
Before I get jumped on, I only used the above as an extreme example. But if I were to play a video poker machine with auto-hold I might just as well start playing mindless slots....
Like you say, auto-hold is not legally required in most states (West Virginia is an exception). But for the top pay thing, IGT likely just does it out of courtesy. And yes, you can adjust auto-hold if you wish. And I agree auto-hold machines are boring to me. I've played machines that had that feature turned on.

It's okay for newbies and those too nervous to trust their gut, I guess. Your own personal back seat driver!

I tend to find that sticky keys are only on the machine you want to play. You know, the machine that is usually paying out.

Autohold is a very useful feature if......IF....you are in a specific situation that requires you to play as fast as possible or as many hands as possible (like for instance, if a certain promotion or bonus is in effect for all video pokerplay that occurs in a specific time frame, such as between noon and 8 pm etc.)A couple years back, I have found that, via using Auto Hold, I can increase my maximum hands per hour played on single line, 25 cent JOB or Bonus Poker, by almost 200 hands per hour!!!!!! This of course assumes and implies total TRUST in the accuracy of the Auto Hold function on whatever game or machine you happen to be playing. I chose to do it on Bonus Poker & JOB simply because they are the more simple and straightforward in terms of strategy and perfect play than other games, where the best play is most obvious and straightforward.

I was sitting next to a lady once and and she was dealt four to a royal. She then waited and put her hand over the card needed on the draw on the screen and hit the draw button. She then realized by touching the screen held all five cards.

I've only seen auto-hold machines at Barona several years ago, and became very suspicious when I played one of them, which was a 10-play and a full house was auto-held. I proceeded to immediately cash out and moved to a single line 9/7 TDB machine, which did not have the auto-hold feature.
