First congrats on quitting and staying that way. As to longevity, I didn’t look it up but bothbof my parents smoked but quit in the mid 1960’s when their siblings and cousins started dropping like flies from lung cancer and heart disease in their late 40s to early 50s. I had my mom until age 89 and I still have my dad God bless him at 95. Both had their share of major health issues, but fared better than their relatives who all smoked. My Grandmother also a non smoker made it to age 89 also and one Great Uncle to age 88. Non smoker as well. All of the family that passed young were smokers. As a young boy, the pits was eating dinner and having both parents smoke. Also being cooped up in the car with the smoke and of course no air conditioning in the 1950s in our car. Just a one car family back then as well.

why are the folks that 'i would prefer there were less of', any more judgmental and rude, than those who constantly bemoan any smoker that crosses their pass? especially, if those smokers are following the mandates (and there are many) set up by society, gov't and businesses. and, what makes my list 'hateful'.

What the leftists want is for us to not see distinctions that include any one on your list of dislikes.
To be all inclusive and accept any version, or perversion, of human existence as coequal.
To all get in the same boat of socialist nirvana,with shared misery, and shove off the dock into the storm. Knowing our fate is not determined by ourselves but rather by an omnipotent government that knows better than we do what is best for us.
Notes, you and i do not have a ticket for the boat. We are certified members of the "deplorables"
When they sink into oblivion those of us who have stayed the course will still be here.

it seems to me that these days folks just like to complain, feel violated or feel superior to someone else. some just want to tell everyone how to live/feel/act. look at the vastly different approaches some states and citizens are taking/demanding to the chinese virus. some want to be told the facts and make their own decisions. others want to be told what to do and they expect everyone else wants to be told what to do. wonder how all those who want the country shut down, would feel if they lost their guaranteed paycheck.

as an ex smoker, i feel smokers have been beaten up enough. if someone's smoking bothers me or someone's huge size makes me uncomfortable, someone smells like an old beer bottle or smells like cheap perfume, i just move.

my biggest problem is when folks try to mandate their line of thinking/beliefs on me.

"MANDATE" an excellent choice of words,it's meaning being an order from a superior to an inferior!
Which is precisely what leftists feel is necessary treatment for anyone who disagrees with them!

For example your lais'sez-faire' attitude toward smokers. To a true leftist that is grounds for prosecution!
To them your position is not in line with theirs and being seen as a threat it must be destroyed!

Personally i also disagree with your position,but i accept it,i do not feel that my position (smokers rights end where my nose begins) is superior to yours and do not feel compelled to destroy it!

I believe that it is very important that people learn, examine, and understand the beliefs of leftists.
The truth is that they are not rational people with whom you can have discussions within the arena of ideas. They want to destroy each piece of your beliefs and replace them with their superior ones
This is exactly why we CANNOT compromise with them! Compromise/agreement to them is total capitulation to THEIR positions!

This is why there is only one solution,one method to take our country back from the bureaucrats and deep-state power brokers, and that is to DESTROY THEM AT THE BALLOT BOX!!

Can we please keep political discussions to the Anything and Everything portion of the forum? Many people come here to escape the political noise that is found everywhere on the internet these days. We do have an area where that's appropriate, but let's not bring it into the other portions of the site. Thanks.

However,as conservatives usually do, i accept it as your belief.
In this particular case your point about appropriateness is totally valid and correct.

The "noise" comment refers not just to the present discussion, but political conversation in general everywhere (not just on this web site). One seemingly can't escape it. Some people come here to do just that.

I'm all for free speech but if someone stands on my porch when I'm taking a nap and starts yelling pro or anti-trump slogans, I'm going to tell them to shove off and let me rest. A lot of people want this to be a place they can come to relax as well.

So if we could keep political discussions to that one area of the forum, then hopefully there is something for everyone. People who aren't interested can keep out of those topics.
