Re: My History in Video Poker
Dude. You are hard core. Makes me dream.
I think one has to be hard core to make it in the business. One has the power to destroy themselves on a moments notice in this racket. You can spend two years building a $50,000 bankroll, but in a moment of weakness, dust the whole thing off across a craps table in an hour or less.
I absolutely never make negative expectation bets. And even with positive expectation bets I make sure I'm well within the means of my bankroll to put down the play.
If Bill Gates came to me and said "I'll flip a coin with you. If you lose you pay me even money. If you win I will pay you double. But the catch is you have to put your entire bankroll up on one flip." Would that be an acceptable proposition to me? I would be getting huge positive expectation. But, no, it is not an acceptable proposition to me. Because there is a 50% chance that I lose my bankroll. If I lose my bankroll I lose my earning power. So, no, I would turn the bet down.

Laughlin was a unique situation. I did the same thing in Wendover. But for the other towns, Las Vegas, Reno, South Shore Lake Tahoe, it was a different story. I could leave Laughlin heading north with a week or two worth of room comp for Las Vegas, or Reno, or Tahoe, that I received through my Laughlin mailbox, but once the comp ran out I would usually just go and get a weekly hotel. It was mainly because I had to run too much action to sustain the room comp. But I did eat for free in all of those spots.

Mickey,
What an incredible story. You're a god in my eyes. To have the patience to watch and stake out and learn the angles is amazing. I've always been more of a bull in a china shop type, looking for the high paytables and banging them, I usually don't look any further. But you have a skill that few others possess.
Damule, I am not a god. I''m a simple man. I believe in simple truths. I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. But Jesus would not want me to be a fool for anybody. He wants me to be the best that I can be. I failed him in so many ways in my lifetime.. But this is one time, kid, where I won't fail him. I will tell all of you kids how to do it right., the first tiime. You kids deserve that much.
After that, kids, you are on your own. I'm the best. The absolute best at what I do. No one can nut me.

Thanks for the happy birthdays. I am enjoying the day. Even though--
A couple of weeks ago I lost my 14.5% play. It was a game where I could only bet 50 cents per hand but at 1000 hands per hour it had a great hourly rate. I had found this "technicians error in where one of the meters reset" on about a dozen machines across Montana during the last two years. But I can't find it anymore. I search and search and search but the effort has been fruitless.
The story was the same everywhere I found this mistake. I would pound on the machine, beat the little casino out of a few thousand, they couldn't figure out why the machine was losing money, so they called the slot route operator to look at the machine, the technician found the mistake and corrected it.
What is known as a casino here is actually just a bar with 10 to 20 machines in it---like the neighborhood bars in Las Vegas. They can't stand to lose a whole bunch of money.
Now, to top things off, a week ago I lost my 9.1% plays. It was the same thing, a technicans error. But I had this play in 5 different locatons. So I rotated through them not being to greedy. I gave each spot plenty of down time so the machines could soak up money from the recreational players.
The slot route operator corrected the error in every location at the same time. That tells me they've really wisened up.
Oh well, when life deals you lemons--make lemonade.
I'll write about the games later. Good luck.

you knew it couldnt last . like one time at the sands lv a dollar machine was paying 6-8 coins back on even money payouts which should have been 5 coins great trip. i like you will try to exploit every edge in a game although we were pushing the edge as that could be construed as cheating and the laws greatly favor the casinos. fortunitly the statute of limitations has run out

Something similar happened at the Goden Nugget/Laughlin one time. They changed a machine from 8 coin dollars to 5 coin dollars. But the machine kept paying the 8 coin payschedule even though the culprits were betting only five coins.
