My first royal (Road to Ruin part 1)

Post by videos00 »

The comments about Philly Park's smoke and rundown facilities kept me away.

So I headed down the road to the other local club.

I was intent on this being a low$/low risk trip

so I brought

- the $600 in my pocket

(this was the leftover from Ceasars over the weekend, I hit 4OAK 5 coins in on the $25 machine

for $125 * 25)

plus

-another $600 which I drew from my local cash machine ( why not save the $3.50 fee)

I promised myself to only dip into the 2nd $600 if the first $600 was totally spent.

I played with the first $600 for about 3 hours, but when I sat down at the $5 JOB machine I blasted though the whole 600 in less than 3 minutes at $25 a pull.

Ok time to start chasing, the second $600 lasted about 5 minutes.

Ok use the check cashing service (3% fee) most I could get was $400, so I took it. This actually lasted about 15min @ $25/pull.

Cash machine time (damn I am getting desperate now)

It will only give me $400 but I have no choice.... so I end up paying the $3.50 fee afterall.

Needless to say the $400 didn't last long.

So now I have blasted $600 + $600 + $400 + $400

$2k total plus a bunch of fees which I would usually only accept in an absolute emergency.

Down to one option now, one I have never used before... the CC Cash Advance.

I go downstairs and ask the guy for a G.

After a few min of punching things into the computer he informs me that there will be a $69.50 fee.

I say yes without even blinking.

In a proper state of mind I would never even consider something like this.

Ok so back to the JOB $5 machine. I sit and go though $200 in about 10 pulls or so.

Then I get up to go to the first machine in the line, but some kid grabs it and starts playing video blackjack, I kinda smirk and then move one seat down.

$200 in nothing

$200 more in

7 pulls nothing

then

-trips

-trips again

-two pair

-flush

up to 50 credits ($225)

- Ad Qd 10d Kd Qc

So I discard the Qc and the Jd drops

"Got it." and I jump up and slap my hands together a few times.

The machine doesn't ring but instead plays some low key type of music.

A guy 3 machines down comes over and says.. i knew you had something when you jumped up like that.

Never even dreaming I'd hit a Royal I didn't yet realize the payout.

So I look down at the paytable

4000 credits @ $5/credit and said to him

"Thats 20 grand isn't it?"

I put back $100 while waiting for the verification and payout. Had them reduce the payment to a check , avoiding the temptation to play further and hit the road.

Nice hit now you won't have to hit the cash machines for a while. I know a guy who plays $5 DDB at max all the time. A while back he hit a royal when he first got to the casino and ended up giving back $12K of the $20K before he finally left that day. He brings $4,600 with him each trip and has had several times when he lost all of that in less than an hour. The best trip I can remember him having was when he finished up the day ahead $52K. I believe he said he ended up ahead $19K for that year.

wow...great win.   Too rich for my blood.   I have ventured on $5 VP a few times when the bank roll was way up but never hit anything substantial.

In 15 years of playing I have a total of about an hour's play in at $5 VP.  Usually too rich for my blood, but I do have that experience of life in the fast lane.    On about my third hand ever on $5 DB play, I hit quad 5's.  About two minutes after getting the handpay, I hit those same 5's again, dealt.   That was on the last morning of a Vegas trip, and I then had to leave to catch my flight home - otherwise I'd probably have stayed and played it back in.

You can buy a mess of collard greens for them $5 quads. Just about corner the market on collards and turnips with that. Drive the price of them to the sky.

Sounds like me. I get a little stupid on occasions when I'm way up and try a little $5 vp myself. I've hit a few things while playing but overall it was nothing more than attitude adjustment for me. Makes no sense for me to pick a fight with a 300 pound badass when I'm 175 pounds soaking wet.

Boy that was one hellava ending but you like me (and probably many vp players) almost got caught in that "I can't believe I just blew that much!"  deal.  If only we could just play for a while and not lose too much....  :)

Good and believable story.  I've been there, going to the ATM, check-cashing "service", and all the rest.  The thing is, VP (for me, DDB) is so much fun and addictive, that the money seems to mean nothing, until you are out of it and on your way home.   I have had some really good days and very bad ones, and I keep coming back.  Always will, as long as I can pay the rent.  Cheers.

Too rich for my blood too.  You broke all my rules, big time.  I've had experiences like yours, in Atlantic City.  But there wasn't a happy ending and I've never been back.

You tell a great story!
