Trip Report: Hobbs, N.M.

Post by bigsteve5273@yahoo.c »

Just in from Hobbs, N.M. ,  the Black Gold Casino and Zia Race Track did great business over the holiday weekend.  Standing room only after 8p.m.  The wife and I stopped in on our way to the alien convention in Roswell.  < the mother ship was calling>   We hoped that the track in Hobbs would be having their wienie dog races but no races of any kind over the holiday.  The casino boasts over 750 slots and video poker games.  A few 8/6 JoB multigames in quarters but most were worse paytables including dollars and up.  Lots of multiline machines but still the paytables were less than enticing.  Plenty of high roller slots available.   The largest I noticed was $100 x 5 for max credit.  No takers while I was watching.  One lady was unfortunately not winning while playing 3 machines, 2 $5 and a $10 simultaneously.  One interesting difference in this Indian owned casino is that no alcohol is allowed on the casino floor.  The bar was upstairs and with a great view of the track.  I finally succumbed and played a little JoB. Bucks up after snagging a straight flush.  I got adventurous after that daring play and tried some very ugly Deuces Wild.  Hideous in fact.   5 of a kind and I clocked out and called it a day.  No hotel at the casino so comps are limited to cash back, discounts on meals in any of their 3 eateries and the obligatory free birthday meal.  Drinks are a la carte but again no alcohol in the casino.  A lovely clean boutique casino serving the newly wealthy of the oil patch.  Ventilation on a busy weekday night was not superb but the security, staff and service are.   If anyone knows when the weinie dog races are scheduled I would gladly return at that time.  If  leaving a winner has colored this report so be it.

Bigsteve, I've moved your report as requested. If leaving a winner has colored the report, I don't think you'll find any complaints. We all know how that goes!
