Comps and couples
My wife is in Vegas right now and playing at a hotel we would like to earn a free stay at for a future trip. I am going next month and I was thinking I would play at the same place... maybe our combined play will be enough to earn a few nights (It's a somewhat pricey place).
My question is, should I just use her players card when I go so that our coin-in is combined, or do comps (not cashback obviously) combine somehow for couples? Maybe by address or something? It seems silly for me to go and get a new players card and start over when we both have short trips planned.
Anyone know how this works? Thanks!

Be careful. If you hit something big while playing with her card, they may give you a hardtime about paying you. Many places link spouse cards like I have at the Mirage Properties. We get free room and free $ play offers all the time. I'm a dollar video Poker player and she plays nickel slots. When in doubt check with your casino host...be friendly and introduce yourself.

FYI: Log on: Bob Dancer linking players cards. Click on 2nd listing: Jean Scott's Frugal Vegas "Playing on a Players Card" August 26 2008 casino promotions. She writes for Las Vegas Advisor.com.

I recommend playing on your own card. When we call our hosts for comps they have always taken both accounts into consideration. Most times the hosts book us in using my wife's account but they know who the "Money Man" is.

Good point about a big win. I won't take that approach to use her card but I would really like to get our cards linked if I can. I'll read the articles you talk about when I have some more time. Thanks!

Try logging on again at the top of your screen, it's there. Try: Jean Scott's Frugal Vegas: Playing on another's players card Near the end of that story are two links to Bob Dancer's players card articles. These provide insight and make one think twice about using another's card, in case there is a big win and a casino does not wish to pay. I want my husband to use my extra Harrah's players card to help me accumulate enough points to keep my Diamond status for next year. One diamond card allows flight, meals, and room for two so it's a win-win situation for our team.

Dancer's big win was Jumbo Jackpot at GVR. After the win they paid him and told him they did not want him using his wife's card.
Some casinos have no problem playing on a spouse's card. I've done it for years at several casinos and have NEVER had a problem.

I have duplicates of all my cards and my wife plays one and I play one. There are special promotions such as Stations Jackpots that require you to be using your card to collect if you win. Dancer's situation was different than any of us in that Stations could have gotten bad ink if they decided not to pay him when using his wife's card. They did insist he use his own card from that point on and did pay him and got some good ink along with it from Dancer.
My wife plays much lower limts and for much less time than I do and all the hosts, especially at Harrahs total rewards casinos look for her first anyway when we're both playing because they know that she's the one that wants the ooey gooey free stuff like shopping vouchers, massages, limo to and from the mall, etc. I just want to play video poker 8-12/hrs day, free meals and rooms. So usually if they find me first they'll ask if I'm ok and where my wife is, LOL.
So obviously it matters where you play and what the specific rules are. My wife has even collected at the promotions desk with total rewards with her driver's license and the players card with my name on. I guess it's possible to have two names on the account, not sure about that though. We always go to Vegas together, maybe it would be different for her if she went with friends and I wasn't there.
