Recent Mohegan Sun action

Post by swivet »

This is a summary of my events of the past month at Mohegan Sun in Ct.Recently a buddy of mine has been raving about the .25 Super Aces triple-play (98.85% with 300 for the SF, and 7/5 for the Boat/Flush)machines;  He has hit 10 Royals and ~ 50 quad aces (2000 coins) this year (At this point, I was led to believe he was AHEAD, but further study of his W/L statement proved that to be erroneous!!)However, before that info was known, I planned a trip down there.I apologize in advance for my geographical ignorance of the casino....it is large and completely asymmetric, and I often get turned around there.6/28Visited with GF and other friend from above....never was able to get on the SA/TP (there are only 8 of these machines in the 'old' casino, 4 near the Indiana Jones Slot bank, and 4 others in a perpendicular bank 100 feet closer to the Sports bar with the big TVs.  Supposedly, there are a few more in the 'new' casino.Ended up playing mostly 8/5 BP on .25 and 50 cent machines (the 'Max coins' on these machines is 25, not 5, so you have to be careful not to mash the 'Max' button if you don't mean it.)The .25 cent machines did not give me much play at all;(These are BALLYGame Makers,  machines, not IGT....)  the .50s were better, but not great....also threw in some 1$ 9/6 JOB (available at every bartop I sat at, with a 5 coin max)  and maybe a couple hundred hands of bad DB (9/6) trying to get lucky.  Also spent an hour at the 99.95% 1$ Pick-em-poker, with no hits bigger than a boat.Ended the day -478 at VP.  Did discover it is 150$ coin in to earn 1$ comp, a .67% payback.I saw no other 'playable' games (99+%) other than the ones listed above, with the Super Aces being the 'best of the rest'.7/2 Visited Alone Got on a super Aces and got way behind; eventually bailed myself out when I got dealt 3 A's and pulled the 4th one on 2 of the 3 hands;   but still finished behind....Also spent an hour at the 99.95% 1$ Pick-em-poker, with no hits bigger than a boat.Day-  -3607/4Visited alone;Won a few hundred playing BJ, and then found an empty Super Aces machine;  Played for a while feeding the machine, and then it dealt me QAAAA.....held all cards,  and the bells went off.....a 1500$ hit.Left casino shortly thereafter, day, +15057/9Flush (haha) with success, I returned with 'Royal buddy' from above, (although we arrived separately, me first, an hour earlier than him)Modified my play to play 20 coins (7/7/6) rather than 15 so that I was playing 5$ a hand. (These machines have a 90 coin max (!!)First 100$ in to Super Aces, was dealt 2 As and drew the other 2 on the bottom line for a quick 700$ hit , so I am up ~620$ before he arrives.  I seriously consider leaving before he even gets there, but figure I can be reasonable disciplined.End up being only quasi-disciplined, and tried to get lucky on the bad 9/6 DB paytable 1$ to the tune of -375.  luckily, hit a few quads on a 1$ 9/6 JOB for +405, including quads dealt, and an amazing 5-card redraw of 7777KUnfortunately, fed the SA machine again, and drained my winnings....ended up hitting AAAA one more time. Also, my friend bought us Pepe's Pizza (HIGHLY recommended!!!!!...and very +EV if you get your friend to buy it.)Day total +1907/21 Mohegan is having Double point days on Tuesdays for the summer, starting at 6AM.Arrived about 3:30 AM and had my pick of machines.Sat at a 9/6 1$ JOB for 30 minutes and got quads, up 50$.Then the bad news began....Got onto a Super Aces machine about 5AM, and by the time I had poured 700$ in, i hadn't hit quad ANYTHINGS!   The pain was setting in, and I moved my bet up to 8/8/8/ (6$/hand)proceeded to hemorrage $$ into this machine (one I hadn't played before until I was -2000 (over a 6400 coin Royal)  Moved to a 9/6 1$ Job and ran 110$ up to 820 before cashing out at 560.Went back to seek out some revenge on SA and found the machine that had gotten rich off me was abusing someone else.  Sat down at the other end of the bank (For some reason the triple play machines are always at one end of the other of the 5 machine bank at MS.)  and realized I'd left my slot card in the 9/6 machine, so I 'napkined' the machine and trudged to retrieve it....fed in 2 100$ bills upon returning, and on the 4th ish hand got dealt 3 aces.......I think Here we go....I gotta hit at least one of these....and BAM.........NOTHING!     Very bummed, mash the deal button and Yahtzee!  AAA3A on the deal........hold all 5, snap some pics, and then hit the deal button.....each line pays 800$ for a cool 2400 to bail me out.   Play thru the 200 just to see if it hits again, ahve another pizza, and skee-daddle.......TY RNG!Day: +262, + 250$ on my slot card. They invited me to a slot tourn, so I got on the phone and asked for a host, and they gave me a room for this Monday night (which is when the slot tourn is) which will be very handy for Tuesday 6AM when double points (+1.333%) start.I'm going to focus more on the lower variance 9/6 (Man that 110-820 machine was hitting EVERYTHING!) and just hope my 99.54 +1.33% play keeps me even and maybe get lucky with my first CT Royal.

farmer;  If you're going to be playing video poker, there is no decision to be made.....Foxwoods pay schedules are horrid.  Stay at Mohegan. The best games are the following:Pick'em Poker---25c and dollars...in the old poker room, up the steps, near the 'wizard of oz' slots (annoying music) 99.95%1$ IGT J/better; at all bars....99.54%, 5coin max....some machines on the left end of the Lodge Bar (Earth casino), and machines at the circular bar at the newer casino have 25 coin max....be careful before hitting that 'max bet' button!

More Action at Mohegan---Went down with the GF last Saturday.....we played some 25 and 50 cent BP with no luck....Her: -150Me: -320She then went and put in 12 full hours at the 2-4 limit poker tables, and I went around trying to put points on my card without losing money.I was quite successful for a while;I had gotten a lot of play on 1$ 9/6 and .25 cent triple play Super Aces, and even hit a couple slots.....I had recovered somewhat and was down about $130.  Then I made 2 mistakes;  I started playing a 1$ 9/6 machine that was paying well, and decided to move from a 5 coin bet to 10........The machine went dry, and my lack of discpline had me feeding it.I got back to almost even (about 900 credits, and wanted 1 more hit, as the machine was hitting lots of straights and a few quads, and lost all of that plus. This caused me to institute a new rule for myself;  If I lose 300$ on any machine, leave it, regardless of how I 'feel'....Day: -2200Monday/Tuesday, 7/27-28Went down begrudgingly for the Slot tourn;  I shouldn't be upset with the casino;  *I* was the one with no discipline....with my new rule in place, and 1250$ in ammo, i went down midday Monday knowing that:1. Slot tournament at 9:20 PM2. Comped Room3. new 'rule' (long overdue ) in place4. I could drink all I wanted  (see #2)5. Double points Tuesday !Arriving about 3 on Monday, I played plenty of 1$ j/b, jumping around quite a bit;  I wasn't hitting quads, but I was getting good action, and staying near even....i knew if i added a few quads or a str. flush in, I would have a good day.I was down about $150 and headed over to the new casinbo which is where the Slot Tourn was being held, and registered....they put in some new IGT 'extra wide' 1$ 9/6 bartops at the circular bar;  I sat down with a 95$ Tito, and started playing 5 coins;  Within the first 80 hands, I hit no less than 6 boats, and was up to about 390 credits;  I played it down to about 320, the boats ceased, and I cashed in, now giving me a small profit for the day.decided it was time for some grub, and used some points upstairs at the BBQ place after noticing they had a 20$ AYCE deal on Mon-Tues;  Sat at the bar, tipped in advance, got fantastic service;   The Chicken was awesome (And I'm not a huge chicken fan!) and the beef ribs were average but ok....I scoffed down my shae (some would say 'more than') and tottered out, ready for more action.Checked out machines in the newer casino;  they have the new 'Ultimate X' poker, and some other newer games, but until I am up on the strategy and know the paytables better, I will avoid them;  I did find another bank of 3/5play with Super Aces (98.85%, which would be a 100.19% game with toorrows double points!) and really fun to play except when you can't hit a quad.I stayed even (down 5$) for the next hour and then played in the 9:20 Slot session. My score was good, but with 320 people, and 30 spots paid, not good enough to cash.headed back off to the old Earth casino and played for a bit at the Wolf den bar.....machines at this bar seem to have a much higher percentage of 'sticky buttons' and i could only play 2 of the 7 machines i sat at without using a mallet to save cards;  I did stay long enough to have them call a slot attendent and fix 2 of the machines.  Also had 3 Sapphine Martinis which were yummy.headed over to the lodge bar, FAR away from Saturday's machines, and put 100 bucks in;   Played it for about an hour ( it was dealing me 3 to the Royal quite a bit, and made it to 4 a few times) while noticing a couple that sat down around the corner;  SHE was playing slots (apparently on her last 15$, because she had to BUY a drink so she could leave a tip)  They were having some kind of low grade argument that was amusing to listen to.  With my machine's very slow drain, the 'local entertainment' and the way I was being teased, I decided this machine was as good as any until the 'rule' took effect.  I ran it up to about 210, back down to 130, then got dealt x QTKx with the 3 high cards being hearts......rather than another tease, it dealt me the J and the AH on the bookends, and the music started.  The slot girl was there before I could even recover (10-15 seconds) and soon they canme with the cash.....I put my hand out palm up, and the very young suit  said, strangely, "You want me to count it  down" and I said surprised....."No! Just hand it to me," figuring he HAD to count it down for the cameras........but...he DID hand it to me.....I counted 40 Benjamins, tipped the slot guy, and then the bartender.....the bartender had been very cool, and when he realized I had hit, he said "you didn't yell or say anything, I didn't even know you hit it"   and I replied " I don't yell when I lose, why should I yell now?"   Argument couple's female (Miss Cranky)  asked what I won, and i shooshed her and just said I hit a royal.  Just what I want...to get mugged by her....Played more and went back to Super aces where I got dealt quad 9s and quad 2s but never hit the Aces, so I lost a few $. Room was VERY nice. (I usually stay in $hitholes in vegas because all i need is a bed, and the nice hotels usually have bad paytables.)  This mini-suite had a bedroom, separate bath area, and separate sitting/living room.....on the 15th floor.Got on the floor for 5 Am with double points starting at 6....I played for a few hours and lost about 3-4 hundred and realized i needed sleep.  Went home.I will be posting pics;  I need a special adapter for my phone to get the shots out...hopefully by Monday......trip; +3502   Total Mohegan Sun Action since June 28, after tips and expenses +1620

Welcome to forum and I enjoyed your great trip report. Congrats on royal! You're right, no need to yell and attract any more attention to your financial windfall than necessary.Last week, when I hit a royal at Greektown, a female employee stood around peering over my shoulder way too long. No conversation, and I thought if I ignored her she would leave. It was early, in a new machine area and quite dark and deserted. Finally, she said she thought it would have been a hand pay (instead of ticket) and finally moved on. Apparently, she was just curious and studying the machine. She set off the warning red flag for me to watch my purse and ticket, as happens when something weird occurs around $.

Thanks faygo, you're probably right and I should have thought of that! Better that than something more sinister! It seemed unusual to me.
