Monticello trip...
was a success. Only played JoB 9/6. Started with .25 machines but decided to play $1 instead. My first investment of $100 had me cashing out $500 ($400 minus my investment). The second machine I put a $100 in and cashed out $400 ($300 minus investment). Since i was with the Mrs., who grew bored of the casino, I had to cut my playing time short. So after we had lunch, i decided to play one more machine but with less of an investment. I put in $70 instead. I cashed out at $270 since i had to leave. It was hard to do because the machine was paying!!! Oh well, $270 ($200 minus $70 investment). For a total of $900, for me not bad at all. I'm very pleased at how i played on each machine and will be brushing up on my program for my next visit.

Thats some incredible luck playing such a short stint in one day. Many would be happy to break even but you won on all the machines you played on. Your wins were on the upside of the ER for that game or any game for that matter. Congratulations.

At first I thought i was doing pretty well on my first machine making the right decisions, when i was doing well on the second machine, "incredible luck" was what i was thinking. But to do well on a third machine makes you really think if luck really has anything to do with it or if hours of studying and using that knowledge to make the right choices is what powered me in those sessions. I like to think that my skill in video poker, even though i'm still between beginner and intermediate, has given me some good opportunities to make some money. And if i closed my eyes and just tapped buttons and came out a winner then i believe luck had something to do with it. Thanks for the responce EDC1977, i look forward to going back and test my skills again. Good luck!

You were just lucky, and your skills had nothing to do with it. If this is the casino in Monticello, NY, these games are VLT's(video lottery terminal), which are actually slot machines that look like video poker machines.Skill has absolutely nothing to do with the results. Your result was predetermined the minute you hit the deal button. If you had been dealt a royal flush and thrown it away, you would have gotten another one.

Having never played a VLT before, is this common? throwing the hand away and getting the same hand back??

Ok now your saying that since these machines are VLT's, "Your result was predetermined the minute you hit the deal button. If you had been dealt a royal flush and thrown it away, you would have gotten another one." How about being dealt 3 of a kind? Your saying that if i threw away one of my cards that would have made a 3 of a kind that the machine would just give me the same card (different suit of course) so that it would still be a win? Or better yet what if the "predetermined result" was to be a four of a kind and i was dealt 3 of a kind with 2 throw away cards but "accidentaly" threw away 3 cards. Would the computor go against the 52 card in a deck logic and give me back the 2 cards to make the "predetermined result" of 4 of a kind? I dont know about "just being lucky and skill not being a factor" it just doesnt sound right to me. How about when i sit down for my session and watch people to the left and right of me come and go for the next 2 to 3 hours just feeding the machines while my first investment is still kicking butt? I mean did a computor "predetermine" my machine as being the one to be played for 2 to 3 hours straight? I'm not a big money gambler. I mean if i walk away from a session up $50 or $100 I'm still a happy camper. VLT's or not if they want to keep giving me cash I'm all for it!

VLTs are like scratch off lottery tickets. The minute the deal button is pressed, the end result is predetermined. If you are meant to have a winning hand, you will end up with one. So, if you are dealt 3 of a kind, and throw it away, you will get another 3 of a kind. Sometimes, you might even get the fourth, but it has nothing to do with the RNG, or odds. If your hand was meant to be a big winner, the fourth card may show up. As far as the people around you, they were unlucky, and you were lucky. Each machine should be random, as to how many times it "hits", but again, skill is not a factor.

golgo13: read up on the "VLT's" and you'll understand. We don't have them here in Ca but we did have the class II machines (or bingo) for awhile. Consider them a slot machine without an RNG. Thats the extreme end of randomness.
