Once in a Lifetime!

Post by patty15 »

I live in Las Vegas and I've been a member for a while but never had a story to share before.

Last week I was low bankrolling a nickel machine at Boulder Station. Really just fooling around. I was planning on losing my $5 and heading home.

I hit 4 deuces 3 hands in a row. Next 2 hands were straight flushes in diamonds. Next hand was a royal I did have to draw for.

I've been playing VP for decades and never had anything like that happen before. I just wish it had been a dollar machine!

I am withholding comment till someone posts the odds of this happening!!Since I'm holding my breath waiting for your comment, I thought I would give you some odds.  It all depends somewhat on the exact game and how many lines were being played...but let's say it was single line and your favorite game 10/7 Double Bonus.I didn't consider the exact order or the exact same hands, but let's say we're interested in having 6 straight hands that are in the set {quad 2s, 3s, 4s, or Aces; straight flushes; and royal flushes}.  The odds of having any one hand in that set is about 1166 to 1.  So to have 6 straight hands from that set, you can figure that out roughly by raising 1166 to the 6th power.  That number is a bit more than 2.5 quintillion to 1, with the first number requiring 19 digits to write out completely. To put this in perspective, getting 6 such hands consecutively is about 82 times less likely to occur than it is to win the MegaMillions jackpot on two consecutive drawings by purchasing a single ticket in each drawing (odds of a single ticket winning it just once are about 176 million to 1).  I think it is safe to say that the vast majority will never know what it is like either to get 6 consecutive such hands OR win the MegaMillions jackpot in two consecutive drawings. The probability is much less likely (so the odds are much longer than I've stated) if you require that all the quads be deuces, both straight flushes be in diamonds, and that at least one of the hands is a royal flush, but I think you can get a sufficient view of the picture from what I have written here.So the thread topic might have more appropriately been titled "Once in many, many, many lifetimes!"Back at ya, Mr. Double B.

Thanks New2vp---wish I had some math skills! Anyway, for those who believe patty15 (her/he/its first post) hit 2,500,000,000,000,000,000,000 (give or take few trillion) to 1 odds, I have some very nice beach front property in the mountains of SC I would love to sell you. Sorry, as with patty15 I don't have any pictures. (lol)
