Some blind luck at the end of a long session

Post by olds442jetaway »

Back from another marathon at Mohegan Sun. Another 8k or 10k hands without a Royal and not even close calls this time. Half hour before quitting time, I decided to play a game I rarely play. Multi Strike vp TDB. Was barely paying attention and playing 2 quarters a line on all 4 lines. Caught Jacks on the bottom line which moved me up a notch. Caught a free ride there and out of the blue on the 3rd level, I was dealt 4 Aces with a 3. The machine held the hand automatically. Payout for this hand 400 for 1. The nice thing though is it is times 4 because it hit on the 3rd level. Couldn't get out of there fast enough barely sipping my early morning coffee on the way out while wiping my brow in relief at the same time.

Congratulations on your blind luck. We all need a little luck from time to time. It seems to show up when you least expect it.

Thank You. Now I have to study up a little on the strategy for this game. I know it is a little different than regular TDB since you are trying to move up to the levels 2,3,and 4. Still can't figure out how to place your reply in a box and have my reply outside of the box

Just hit the quote box first before you begin your reply. Good luck.

A quick and dirty strategy may be found by adding 6 credits on all the "for 1" payouts for level 1, 4 credits for level 2, and 2 credits for level 3. Level 4 and free rides are played normally.

For example at Level 1, a single high card is better than a low pair that's not 22,33,44.

Approximate Level 1 strategy for 9/5 TDB when short-coining is linked below [93.82% max if you short coin (see below for explanation); 97.53% max if you max bet]

http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-pok ... -56-d-406/

Paytable explanation: NEVER EVER play TDB for less than max credits. In that game they usually devalue AWAK to 400 for 1 instead of 800 for 1 for non-max bets (as you described in your OP), which drastically reduces the return, much more than devaluing the Royal to 250 for 1 does. See that AWAK pays just as much as 2-4s w/kicker or a Royal with anything but max bet? Not my hit below unfortunately.

Great hit, but I beg you to NEVER short-coin TDB Multi-Strike ever again. (Any other game should be ~okay to short-coin if you insist on playing Multi-Strike and don't want to risk a max bet.)

I see your point vman. I will be sure to check out the paytable on my next trip. Thanks for the quick version strategy too. I was winding down my session just prior to the hit as I posted earlier. Usually I check for all variations in the paytables from one coin all the way up, but didn't this time. If I am going to max bet this game, I will have to limit it to nickels. Luckily, for now Mohegan has left that option in there and no change in the paytables from nickels to quarters.

And Sam, so sorry about the loss of Samantha. I think once she is on the other side or the gates upstairs, she may help you out a bit on vp. I will see you soon at Foxwoods. Sometime in October. Winding down my play now at Mohegan unless they make some last minute offers that I can't refuse and I doube that.

Thanks to ch cat too for the tip on quote replies. Will try it next time.

I have a quick story about short playing a machine; in 2007 I was playing 3/5 play DDB  at Hollywood in Aurora, IL and I had allready hit 3 royals on a machine in the session. A man had sat down at the machine next to me right before I hit the 3rd royal and when it came up, paying me $1,000.00, he congratulated me and I said thanks. About 10 minutes later he hit one on his machine and he only got paid $62.50 and he complained that I got the grand while he got only $62.50 for hitting the royal and I explained to him that he was only playing 1 coin on a line and I was playing max coin. He left the machine a little while later and I decided to jump over to the machine he was playing and about 15 minutes after I started playing, I hit another royal for a grand. Unknown to me the guy was standing behind me watching me play and he then got upset because I hit the royal on a machine that he had just left. I said that if he was mad then he shouldn't have been standing behind me watching me play. Short playing usually has more downside than upside.

Ted, it's a bankroll decision to play less than max higher denom vs. max bet lower denom. It's worked both ways for me and I curse the short coin RF's but what are you gonna do.

OLDS, nice hit nonetheless!

I would say, play at a denom that allows you to play max coins. Those high-paying hands, like RFs, don't come around often, so you want to be all in when they do.
