Keno and Poker Jackpots

Post by Lucky Larry »

At the Isle Monday night with "K" playing Keno next to me while I played VP. I've watch K play keno many times. The first time we met she had just hit a $4K and then caught a $37K keno hit. Monday, she caught a $1200, $4K and $7,800 hits over a three hour period. The reward you get for $26/hand multi-card keno. I also watched her put in $2K without a major hit in a 30 minute period.

Meanwhile, in the poker area across the casino a huge commotion with yells and screams erupted. Talk about a love fest - high fives and hugs all around the table. The $256K poker pot had been hit with the winner receiving $125K, runner up $60K and $11K for each of the other table players.

had to be the bad beat jackpot for that kind of money. normally, its something to the effect of quads beating quads with both cards in your hand having to play (holdem). some jackpots really get up there. ive seen them as high as 450k.

the loser of the hand will get get 50% of the jackpot, the winner of the hand gets 25%, and the rest of the table will split the remaining 25%. sometimes the %'s differ slightly depending on the room.

Larry, I am fascinated by but have never played Keno at the casino.  I have piddled with it on this website. So far no luck.  I guess I do not have the patience to be a good Keno player.  Is there a strategy to playing Keno?  I would not mind taking the risk if I knew what I was doing.

Station Casinos in Vegas and Henderson had the bad beat jackpot also for poker. Not sure if they still do. I have moved to the Aria poker room.

thats where i seen the approx 450k jackpot, but it was at harrahs in st. louis - probably about 5 or 6 years ago though.

when i started playing poker in the mid 90's - the bad beat was aces full of tens had to be beat. much easier in those days although you never had monster jackpots either. 50k was considered a monster.

then the poker boom happened in the early 2000's and all the rooms started raising the qualifying hand requirements as there was 10 times more action. the pots grew faster and hit more often.

the biggest keno hit I ever saw was in the high limit room at trump taj mahal. There were two men playing $100 machines. I was walking around and was going to walk over to play a game king poker machine. one of the men was sitting at it not playing. I wasn't going to ask him to move so I started playing the one next to him figuring he would leave soon. his friend came up and asked how he was doing and said not good, lost his stake and was ready to go home, then he said to his friend, I have a game we can play. he set the game king to $5 keno and said pick some numbers, him and is friend picked numbers and he played a seven credit $35 game of keno, as soon as hit play he raised his arms and hit for $175,000.00. amazing how in a blink of an eye you can go from going home broke to having a monster win.
