Michael Charley - The Resurrection

Post by roveer »

So as many of you know I recently posted about the demise of my favorite row of STP machines at Harrah's in AC.  They were being replaced by the new flat screen version from IGT.  We've been waiting almost 5 weeks for the new machines to be switched on and each week you could see things happening towards that end.  Well, Monday was the day.  As it turns out I was in AC to collect a number of Monday promotions so with a little free play and 500 bucks from my bankroll I was able to muster up the following.  I guess my hesitation about new machines, new code etc were all for naught.  For the most part these machines were very lively and I am quickly assimilating to them.  A couple of quirks.  First, no speed button.  I like to play on "turbo" and these machines are missing this option.  I'm sure it's in the software, I've seen it in the config screen so maybe I have to make a stink and get it turned on.  I can almost achieve the same result on the draw by double tapping the draw button, but it's not the same thing.  Next, it's darn hard to take pictures, it's either the game screen or this huge box that shows the amount won.  It switches quickly so I had to take multiples in order to get the game screen.  Third and probably most annoying is after the draw on a multiplier the multiplier number dissapears from the box.  You'll see on my handpays it just shows the X and you have to figure out yourself what the multiplier is.  This seems like a coding flaw and really should be fixed.   There are a few other quirky things but those were the big ones that stood out for me.  On to the pictures.

BTW, on the final picture I think I was dealt a pair of aces in that hand and was just about to hold them when I decided to hold the 3 suited. Glad I did. It rounded out the evening for me, quad aces and a royal!

Nice hits roveer. I too, would miss the speed button on the machines. It must have been tough to only see that you got one kicker when you were dealt quad aces in the top picture, not that I'm being greedy or anything. Congrats again.

I was a bit surprised myself about the single kicker. It was so nice to see aces again I was happy for what I got but here is my observation on timing... I'm a student of timing. I've developed my own methods of deal draw and gap timing that seem to give me good results. I can often coax a multiplier on STP when not seeing one for a long while. I also see vast differences in dealt hands when fiddling with the timing so I go with it. If it's true or not who knows but it works for me. So the reason I mention this is that while I was playing last night I was talking to the folks sitting next to me so when I caught the aces I departed from my normal timing and I do believe that had an effect on the outcome. I'm usually good for 2-3 kickers on dealt aces. In any event it was a wonderful way to begin my new age STP play.

The really nice thing is, I'm hosting a friend at Harrah's this weekend and I now have a great bankroll to enjoy while also putting a ton of dough away for the holidays. You know when you have one of those nights.

Did you miss the pic where he hit 2 quad Aces and an AWAK when just having 3 Aces. Or the pair of Aces drawing to 4 Aces with a 5X? He should have been pretty happy yesterday, I'd hope.

And weird that the multiplier goes away on the screen. It doesn't do that on the newer "All Star Poker II" machines. You can also see the looks of other new machines at Joliet in the reflection. I also prefer the audio of the older games better myself. The newer games are slightly different.

On two of the handpay pics, when the "JACKPOT" is in the middle of the screen, it shows your STP, but on the others, without the JACKPOT,  it doesn't. Could it be that these were set up to only show the STP when the JACkPOT screen is up?

Those were legacy machines in the diamond cove.  See my pic below for what you get on the new ones.  I'm going to play them literally until they carry them away with me still hitting buttons... While I'm kinda likeing the new machines, I'm sure going to miss the old ones but you can't stop progress...

My understanding is that IGT told Caesars Ent. that they stopped making replacements parts for the older machine that is the reason they purchase 7,000 new poker machines. I know every IGT poker machine at Harrahs Joliet is being replaced. Can't wait to they change the ones at the Blue Bar.
