Servers Vs Chips

Post by DaBurglar »

Just returned from a short 3 day AC trip in which my brother and myself played in Borgata's 2 day 100K guaranteed poker tourney (which I will report on in the AC section of forum.) During our three days, in betwixt the poker tourney, we also got in some BJ and VP play, and as always I made it a point to learn and expand my knowledge base further on whats going on behind the scenes.   Talkative dealers, and floor people were the sources this time, as the casinos were not very busy per usual (except of course, BORGATA which is always packed it seems.)  Server based games, including VP, offer many advantages to the casino, but not so to players.   Have any of you asked to see a specific games recent results, or review your own hands/play after a lenght of time, to see if a mistake was made or to verify if a machine gyped you?   Under the old chip based machines, the process was fairly simple, a tech opens up a machine and eithe rprints out a history or displays it on the screen....with server based machines, this process will now potentially take a LONNGG time for obvious reasons, since the tech now must call or visit the server room or control senter, submit the request, and then convey somehow the info to the player requesting it.....do they print out something in the office, down on the floor or what?   since providing such info, at least in AC, is actually NOT a legal requirement but more of a courtesy, good luck getting this info once all the games are hooked to some central server somewhere on, or OFF, premises! And while the cost cutting opportunity to each casino could be significant being on server(s), the risk of massive blackouts and total incapacitation of all machines now exists which means, however unlikely, you could suddenly find yourself in a casino with ALL machines on the blink.   Do not think it cannot happen, because it will.
