Latest AC fiasco
My AC trip from February 17 thru 22 was absolutely the most horrific Video Poker experience to date in AC, in terms of results......I am not kidding here folks, this truly topped them all......First, the good news (yes there was some).......I played 11 hours of cash game No limit Hold em at the Borgata. This was my first real true Cash Game session at the Borgata, which is a tough place to play for cash because ALL the best players play there, and it is full of sharks and teams of 3, 4, 5 or more players who sit at the same table and coordinate taking down "marks" like me (people who are by themselves and there to have a good time and hopefulyl make some money....) These teams are not allowed by casinos, but of course, they are extremely hard to detect and prove and naturally, the guys who run them are very good at what they do....fortunatley I have been playing for a long time and I am now very good at spotting such set ups.Anyhow, 13 hours of n/l holdem, playing $2 / $5 blinds (minimum Buy in of $500) I made $3,900 profit! One of my best poker NON tournament results ever! And the best part is, I won it without ONCE sucking out to win a big pot.....I earned EVERY dollar of that take! Plus, I also played about 2 hours of 7 card stud and won another $375....If I can log another 7 hours of N/L $2 / $5 on my next trip I will qualify for their next freeroll INVITATION ONLY tournament for $35K in prize money!!!!I also won $250 bucks in a free blackjack tourney at the Showboat!!!!!Anyhoo....in between my poker sessions over this 5 day period, I played a fair amount of Video Poker at Resorts and the Taj (about 65% Resorts, 35% Taj) ALmost all the play this time was 25 cent 9/5 DDB...not a great paytable, especially when compared to the 8/5 bonus poker available everywhere, but with my winnings at real poker I decdied to "go for it" in the form of the bigger hits on DDB. Big mistake.....I guess...Overll I lost $1500 over the 5 days playing DDB. my total return percentage was 87%, but it was two particularly horrific stretches, one on Tuesday night (february 18) at Resorts in which I lost over $600 in 90 minutes, the other on Thursday (february20) late afternoon again at resorts playing the EXACT same machines as Tuesday the 20th where I lost an additional $650 in 2 hours and 15 minutes.....it was almost unbelievable. I had a couple brief stretches where I temporarily "made back" some of the losses with successful hits like 4aces with a kicker (once) for $500 playing on various machines in the TAj and Resorts.......but there were 4 machines at Resorts I played DDB during these two slaughterfest sessions, both times they yielded almost identical results (identically BAD lol)I just couldnt believe it (or understand it....) How could machines be THAT horrible....I received virtually NOTHING in the line of hands worth mentioning...in the first 90 minute session on Tuesday I received 1 quad (5s) in 90 minutes, roughly 1100 hands......my dud rate was catastrophically high, such that, with 1100 hands, (thats about 1375 bucks coin in) and a net 600 dollar loss......LOL you see the "return" percentage...point of fact, NOTHING was returned lol. I switched machines several times during this slaughter, but it did not matter, and I think that is what gives me the most pause....usually, when I have a machine that is just awful, I switch off, and the new machine almost always (at least initially) deals me better stuff. not this time, if anything it got worse! On thursday, after winning some more at poker, I returned from the borgata flsuh with cash again, and I said "no way can I have as bad a session as the other night"....so I went to the same machine(s) as before and started playing again.......and the exact same experience (just about) unfolded before my eyes....I was in stunned disbelief, and this time i received not a single quad during 2-1/2 hours of play (I played a little slower this time but still logged almost 1600 hands......$2000 coin in, $650 lost, session return % ......67.5!!!! wtf??? I was actually, briefly, extremely pissed off.....not because I had lost, or I was surprised (i shouldnt have been even if I was!).....no, I was pissed because, once again, I was in a good mood, having a good time in AC with my Poker winnings and enjoying the scene, and then this.....this ridiculous, horrific DDB machine(s) just flatout STOLE my money......BOTH TIMES! I mean c'mon! The other $250 or so I lost at Video Poker was once again on that stupid ridiculous QUIC QUAD multi-line game at the Taj on the main casino floor not far from the main room elevators.......I have been playing that machine for 2plus years and I have never hit, nor seen anyone hit, anything of importance; never had a profitable or winning session despite playing the best game they have on it (8/6 DDB)......that game too just takes your money and regardless of how the game is supposed to work or what it adertises, the quads (quick or natural) just never come. It really truly is rigged.

First of all congrats on the great poker playing and beating up on the sharks at their own game! I hear you on dud rates, lack of primium hands, etc. etc. etc. You probably by now have read my continuing thread on my " Royalless Streak" at Mohegan. I will be posting there again in another few minutes. More of the same. 6500 hands between Sun pm and Mon afternoon. Mix of deuces wild and job. On the job front, no quads in 5 1/2 hours, then 4 in 5 minutes. No deuces quads at all. So another big hit overall. I think Ct. and A/C vp must be connected by a lifeline....a dudline for us...I also spoke to the few remaining vp players. No Royals recently for any of them. One guy had a nice Tripple Double Bonus hit on a nickel machine with terrible odds that paid him over 500-. That couple no longer plays quarters at Mohegan and they used to be level 3 players. Anyway, continue the success at poker. Save vp for down time. Good health and luck.

Quick Quads has a very different strategy than regular video poker. I would expect the Taj to have very bad pay schedules --- although 8/6 DDB QQ is quite a bit better than 9/5 DDB. If you wish to know more about the game, there's a free download from this site www.videopoker.com/quickquadsYour numbers say your gambling trip netted +$2,000 plus. And you call this your most horrific trip ever? We all should be so unlucky! It really doesn't matter if you won at poker and lost at video poker or the other way around. I would think the net score is what matters. You know better than to play 9/5 DDB --- but you still do. There are 9/6 DDB games in AC. You still would have lost, given the bad hands you received, but your loss would have been smaller.and you already know DDB is a "heaven or hell" game. This time you experienced the "hell" side. No big deal. It has happened to all of us.Bob

If DDB is "heaven or hell", what would you call TDB ??

Have you not been keeping up with DaBurglar's posts, Bob? Games are clearly rigged in AC according to him!

DDB with wide swings...who would have guessed? In all seriousness, I'll play DDB for about an hour or two, if nothing good happens I switch to deuces. That's when the quads really start rolling in.

No big deal. It has happened to all of us.BobI have been practicing Quick Quads using a couple different tools, but I have not used th eone on this site yet.....I will in the near future when I have a moment. I only play it in ac AT THE TAJ when I am totally bored with all else that is available.....I used to play the SINGLE line Quick QUad machine on the FIVE STAR GAME Machines that used to be at Caesars but they were removed and have not resurfaced anywhere! Too bad, those five star machines had the best paytables for many of these gimmick games. But as to your statement that there are 9/6 DDB games in AC, where exactly are they? I am gonna guess that Borgata might have them since I am very unfamiliar with their VP inventory.....when I am in Borgata I am totally focused on POKER, my rooms are always in a hotel on the Boardwalk (either Resorts or Trump properties....) I dont have the standing at Borgata (yet) for comped rooms, but another couple months playing pOker will change that, if I maintain my current play and success. But on the Boardwalk in AC, I am pretty sure there are no longer any 9/6 DDB machines......Even though I finished "up" on my overall trip, since this is a video poker-centric site and the discussions are bent in that direction, my trip was "horrific" from a VP standpoint, and as my posts show, AC has been horrific as far as VP goes.......obviously Bob, you never play there for the reason the pay tables totally BLOW compared to what you are STILL able to scrounge up in Vegas even in this day and age....but despite the fact that I have played the best possible games in AC for the most part, the results have been bad simply because the machines spit out so many no value did hands, way in excess of the expected 55% rate a normal RNG will deal over time .... as you pointed out yourself, it would not matter what pay table you have when you are getting huge numbers of busted hands!
