Golden Nugget Las Vegas circa 1998

Post by DaBurglar »

Does anyone here recall the Golden Nugget-Vegas having 6 Progressive  25 cent JOB machines back in the late 1990s, whereby the jackpot was actually STARTED at 1200 dollars instead of 1000?The paytable was 8/5, which during this time period for JOB was pretty bad but the GN compensated by starting the jackpot already in handpay territory.I remember the machines being always fully occupied, and some jackpots reaching all the way up to 2800 plus......I never hit the royal but I also never really lost a lot playing the machines.    Steve Wynn still owned the GN in 1998, and I think the machines were his doing, because, if I recall correctly, they stopped setting the jackpot at 1200 shortly after the Super Bowl in 2002 (Rams Patriots)     Isnt that about the time Wynn sold everything to MGM and embarked on his "next big thing"?I'd like to see more of this, setting progressive Jackpots at a higher starting point than what is normal

I can't remember who but didn't someone here once hit a royal while playing at a gas station in Las Vegas?

Getting back ON TOPIC, I do not remember those specific stats whether it was the progressive payouts at the Golden Nugget(GN) or who played in the 2002 Super Bowl. I do remember one Super Bowl though in which the Chicago Bears decimated the New England Patriots. The Patriots were really crushed by those barbarian thugs.

Was that the "Appliance Bowl", where Chicago cheated, and used a refrigerator ?

yes the 1985 super bowl saw arguably the best SINGLE-SEASON DEFENSE in history, the "46" defense of the Chicago Bears (under coach mike ditka  and buddy ryan as defensive coordinator)They clobbered the Patriots 46-10, in Super Bowl 20.   At the time it was the worst defeat in super bowl history.    But only 4 years later, San Francisco beat Denver 55-10 and that was that. But clearly, in the LONG RUN of Football history, New England is far superior to Chicago.   Seven Super Bowl Appearances for the Patriots and only two for Chicago.     3 Championships for New England, only one for Chicago.Patriots are CONSISTENT contenders every year, and since 2001 they have been the best team in football over that stretch of time BY FAR.   The Bears have two crappy years for every one good year they manage to put together.Still, 1985 Chicago Bears Defense was remarkable, a once in a generation type thing! And yes Billyjeo, "the fridge" took part in a "BUD BOWL" game, where the opposing team countered with a "washer and dryer".  But then the Fridge was supported when his team countered by throwing in "the Kitchen sink"......    I am not sure though if that did not happen until 1987 or 1988??The Super Bowl played in January 2002 was between the HEavily favored St Louis Rams ("Greatest show on Turf") and they underdog Patriots.    They were the biggest underdogs in Super Bowl Betting History going into that game, but Coach Belichik's defensive genius planning helped shut down the Rams Offense, and a young Tom Brady managed to NOT make any mistakes and the patriots won 20-17!I watched that game in stunned (yet ecstatic) disbelief in the Golden Nuggets Sports Book, and I won a "Futures" bet I put on the Patriots when they made the playoffs.   The GN sports book had them at 12/1 when the playoffs started to win the AFC, and 17/1 to win the Superbowl.   I put 20 bucks on each!

My local casino got a new bank of new VP machines in about a year ago and used to start the $1 Royal at 5K instead of 4K and that was at 9/6 DDB. That didn't last long betting somebody made a mistake and it took a few months to figure it out So they lowered it to $4K and now they have been removed completely and replaced with video penny slots full of bells and whistles. They are awesome for every $1.80 you bet you win .30 to .90 cents and people go crazy over them haha.

Was in Reno last few days and they have a bank of single line 25c machines at the Peppermill that have the royal at $1199. Not a progressive (says special promotion). DDB was 9/6 even. Played two and a half days on them and other single line 25c machines $1100 invested and got blanked!!!! Between me and my spouse we had a grand total of two 4OAK....I was dealt quad 10's, she drew to quad jacks off a pair. Two 4OAK with all that invested just finished off that casino for me forever, I will never go back. Strange thing was we both had plenty of straights, 3OAK, full houses...and hit flushes at a rate I have NEVER seen before. It was like they could turn off all the hands above full houses. I think we missed at least 150-250 plus draws dealt 3OAK at quads to hit zero!!!! Plinking at 3 line 5c the next morning before we left she hits a royal with 28 nickels in....and between us we hit 9 4OAK!!! Hard not to think something was not up BUT I will just visit another place rather than go back.

Hard not to think something was not up BUT I will just visit another place rather than go back.wow   sorry you were blanked.     I have not been to the peppermill since 2006, but I always liked it......I cannot say I ever hit a Royal there (and I must admit I have played less than 30,000 hands of VP at the Peppermill in my entire LIFE), but I also never was blanked the way you and your spouse were.     I think I might even show a small profit over my 30K hands of VP at Peppermill. But allow me to urge you not to completely abandon peppermill......you are doing the right thing, taking a leave, especially if you have other options to play (which you do obviously with all the other Reno casinos, plus Tahoe, and Vegas only a few hours south)      But give the peppermill another chance in a few months...it is one of the best places in Reno when considering the entire package.Let me ask you a question though:   How many trips would it take for you, experiencing the same sort of "blanking" you experienced this time, to conclude that something INDEED was "up" at the casino?   That is to say, if you had similar "blankings" on your next three trips would you conclude the casino is rigging its games?   Five trips?   Seven?    I am just curious, and if you answer I will tell you why I ask......   but before anyone else jumps in and torpedoes this conversation, I am steadfast in believing that NEVADA casinos are the safest, surest and most fair in the country....in other words, in Nevada Casinos with regards Video Poker,  it is definitely 100% WYSIWYG......
