Another Good Start to the Year! Tunica - Jan. 2015
Saturday night seemed packed at the strike and the shoe. Even roadhouses tables were pretty busy.
We hit the pool at the strike for a bit and note that they cemented one of the hot tubs in. Place isn't busy enough for both of them i guess. After some drunk jerk goes up the gold strike parking garage the wrong way, we make it to Ballys.
Bally's was less busy but not dead either. Of course we didn't hit the hot seat promo. First start off at the bar to drink some Lagunitas IPAs. And both the g/f and I can't hit anything on 7 /5 Super DDB (98.61%). So move over to deuces with stp (99.19% w/stp) and hit this to open the trip. Damn, wrong machine. Crappy pic too, because guy next to me probably thinks I'm a whackjob for taking it.
After Bally's, run over to the shoe for a bit. Find a good amount of ultimate x multipliers at quarters. Didn't take a pic of any of them, but got dealt 3 2's at quarters on one hand, iirc, and gained about $30 on all of those.
Then had some lazy magnolia brown ale at the shoe poker bar. And got the first natural quad of the trip.
Eventually make my way to the strike, and listen to their cover band which was pretty good. Was able to find a seat at the bar and low rolled it. Hit this along the way at the bar. Also won a bit playing the best VP game they have there 9/7 DB (99.11%).
Sunday morning we hit and run Resorts to see if their VP progressive is anything good. Not really at $1150. But I think that it might be a good idea to play a few points on my card to stay active for my few bucks of comps.
Since the bar was empty, I was able to clock the progressive meter. A penny per max bet (0.8% meter), which actually makes their 15/10 double deuces game the best overall bartop in Tunica (98.86%+ prog). Problem is I've never hit deuces at the quarter level while actually playing deuces. Made one wild straight flush and finished up $1.25.
Then head over to Sam's Town to eat as we haven't had the buffet in a while. Pretty decent for a $10 lunch on the weekend. And we used some points which are double for food. Play for a bit 9/6 JoB (99.54%) and watch some football. No quads but I didn't lose much either.
Go to outlet mall, a lot of stores have closed up. That place is so dead. Check into the roadhouse. G/f naps a bit while a watch the Broncos choke in the room. Skip the Ballys slot tourney. Wasn't feeling it. Also missed a free slot tourney at the roadhouse as the schedule changed. Doh.
We hop back over to gold strike for double points on slots. G/f couldn't hit anything. I bet a couple of beers and more kings. Ironically the same 5 card on both quads too (2 of spades).
Back to the room for a bit, g/f is losing a lot and not feeling it. Around 11:30 pm I go back down to roadhouse for my favorite game there, 9/6/5 DB w/Double STP (98.30% w/DSTP) and pull off something I've never done before.
I finally I pulled off breaking two pair with Aces and hitting quads. Of course the dork in me had to do the math to know how often this should happen. 1 in 2598560 x 16215 ÷ 45 ÷ 12 ÷ 36 ÷ 44 = 1 in 49268. Even rarer than a royal! Royal would have been nicer though, obv.
After that the machine turns cold as hell though. I end up losing the entire win because it takes me another 90 minutes to hit my first full house of the night.
Then I hit a few more quads to stay afloat. One of them dealt.
My biggest multiplier hit for the night. Another reason my 4 Aces win got eaten.
Now well lubricated, I plan to go back up to the room, but I spot a "lucky lemmings" slot I want to take a stab at. Got $5 back from that machine.
On Monday it's terribly foggy in the morning, and we end up going to Southaven for lunch. G/f found a nice dress for her 5 year old cousin at 90% off so that makes her happy... haha
We get back to Tunica and head over to Fitz for the usual Monday buffet. They raised it from $7 to $7.99 though, Doh! What we also noticed was Sunday and Monday was terribly dead everywhere. I'm guessing the weather kept everyone home. Fitz was particularly bad for traffic.
Before eating though, I get an okay win on "Pelican Pete". I was hoping it would be more though.
Now we hit up Sam's Town to watch the rest of the college football national championship because it's double points today and have 9/6 JoB at the bar. in the parking garage, we notice this.
Thanks to Mississippi's current plate system, plates with my initials are pretty common in Southaven and Tunica. Ever since we've noticed this, we've tried to find the plate with my birthday numbers. Haven't found any of those yet, but this one is the g/f's birth year.
Enjoy the game at Sam's Town. I wanted Oregon to win, but maybe it's better that they didn't because my g/f from Chicagoland says "Orr-ah-gone" and it really tilts me as every media person says it the way I do. Lol Also the drunkest, most excitable guy at the bar was from Ohio. His wife also won a $1600 jackpot on the floor. So good for him.
As for me, I was quadless, but only lost $13 while earning almost $2.50 worth in food comps, so not too shabby. G/f won a couple of bucks as she finally hit a moderate $16 bonus.
We head back to Horseshoe/roadhouse as Horseshoe had a 12X slot/5X VP multiplier. But first, we find a "rock around the clock" slot where the clock was at 9:30. When the clock his midnight the bonus is guaranteed, so the later the clock is, the better the game is.
Unfortunately, the bonus didn't trigger for us until almost 11 and it was a crappy $6 Bonus and we still lost $5 over it. Bah.
Hit this at the shoe poker bar while trying a ghost river blonde and a smith & forge apple cider.
Go back to roadhouse for Double STP, and have a gradual loss. Then decide to take a stab at the 9/6 JoB progressive and win some of my losses back with this.
Overall I might have dropped 30 to 40 on the day. G/f didn't do very well with the slot multipliers at the shoe. And was approaching a record tunica loss for her.
Get up and check out of the Horseshoe. G/f planned to play a little bit on the way out because the slot multiplier was still on. But we were a bit indifferent about going.
We pull out of the parking garage and drove through the parking lot before saying what the hell let's play as I had good luck with finding ult x multipliers this trip.
Well the multipliers weren't there today. Then I decide what the hell and play slots for 12X points. Now I run like total crap and lose $20 with only $25 coin-in. Now I'm probably break even for the trip.
G/f haven't shown up yet, so I was hoping she was doing well. I then look at this one ult x machine that I didn't check, even though the previous 5 had nothing. Glad she still hadn't showed up to leave as she was slightly up on the day...And I got a lot more up!
Bam! Leaving Tunica with a winning smile on my face.

Always enjoy the stories and pics. I didn't know you could find penny vp out there. Good show and nice hit. Saved by the bell just like I was last night.

Damn Doug, you hit those deuces on the only line WITHOUT a multiplier! doh!
The wife and I really liked Tunica (Well, at least Shoe and Strike)
But highly doubtful we'll ever get out that way again...

Yeah, you got a ways to drive all the way out there for sure. There's always Vegas...
And yeah, a bit disappointed to get it on the only non-multiplied line. But definitely better than a total brick! A true DDB player would also moan about not getting the kicker too!
FYI, the Shoe and Strike are some of the best Tunica has to offer overall unfortunately. We also like the Roadhouse too because of the jet tubs for ~cheap during the week. I also like Resorts/Sam's Town because their best VP games are at the bar.

Not sure I would call it quite penny VP, you had to bet 100 pennies for the full royal. 99 pennies was $693, a 700 for 1 royal. But even at the 25 penny mark, they give you a reasonable royal I think. I can't remember the increments. I want to say the game is near 99% at the 50 cent mark.

Being a history buff of sorts, I like the pics of the bottles too. You can't spend those though.

Vman, loved your commentary and your pics. I've never been to Tunica, you would think with my living in FL it would be a natural idea, but whenever I have some $ I always see my sister in NY and we head over to AC. But, it's something that I'd like to do one day!! Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for sharing, I enjoy these VP trip write ups. Keep them coming! Bummer that you were not able to get a multiplier on those quads in Super Times Pay.
Regards to football, lots of angry and disappointed people at the Sportsbook with the NFL Divisional Round and the College Football National Championship game outcome. Hopefully you did not get involved with those bets.
That Pelican Pete slot game, it is volatile and the most worthwhile if a player lands the 3 lighthouses to get into the bonus round, individual line hits are not worth as much. The Pelican wilds will stick for the rest of the free spins, if the Pelicans keep appearing, that is where the big hits are as you will get many 3,4,5 of a kinds every spin. Since then Aristocrat made a few more spinoffs with different themes.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks! But being from Florida though Biloxi makes more sense. Tunica is 5 hours further north from Biloxi.
Being a history buff of sorts, I like the pics of the bottles too. You can't spend those though.
Yeah, I got lazy on this one. They'll be back for Vegas next month!! And the pics of those I usually rip from the internet anyway. I need to remember to actually take pics of them in person.

Yeah still waiting for those Aces with a multiplier...sigh G/f got one on Ultimate X on the fourth of July.
Sportsbetting is illegal in MS or anywhere in the US outside NV, so nah, no money on it. If I was in Vegas though, I would have probably lost $10 or so on Oregon. I suck at sportsbetting hard.
And yeah, I had about a 100X hit on a "Pelican Pete" bonus at Flamingo a couple of years ago. I have yet to duplicate such luck the few times I've tried since.
